New York AG Sues Trump Family for Financial Fraud

The New York Attorney General is suing former President Donald Trump, his adult kids, and their family real estate company, capping off a three-year investigation into what her investigators deemed rampant business and tax fraud.

The lawsuit, revealed at a press conference with New York AG Letitia James Wednesday morning, seeks to block the Trumps from serving as business executives and slam the Trump Organization with a whopping $250 million in fines.

The office has also passed along evidence to federal prosecutors in Manhattan and the Internal Revenue Service “for criminal investigation,” according to a statement.

I don't know where you heard that today's announcement was going to have anything to do with criminal charges, but you need to get better sources of information.

 

If she was going to charge him criminally she wouldn’t shoot her wad in a civil suit.

Fines are of no consequence to Mr. Donald Trump. All he need do is set up a rally to provide a defense fund. His loyal followers will pony up the bucks, and Mr. Trump will gain the plus of appearing before an adoring crowd. It's a win/win for him.

As for enjoining Mr. Trump and/or members of his family from holding certain business positions, the number of work-arounds far exceeds the number of positions.

I submit that the only thing which will truly punish Mr. Trump for a crime, assuming he has committed one and that punishment qua punishment is sought, is jail time.

Because if she could convict him on criminal charges, her civil suit becomes a matter of process. So you charge criminally first.

James's case was ALWAYS civil. From the beginning. It was never about criminal charges.

She was never attempting a criminal case. You just can't tell the difference between the AG and the DA for some reason. And the want to put money on it? $100 to the charity of your choice from me if this fails. $5 to the charity of my choice if court finds in favor of civil damages. Deal?

 

She isn't the one heading the criminal investigation. Bragg is. Her pursuit, from the beginning, was civil.

 

It might matter more than you think when his debts start getting collected. But this will hurt his ego for sure, even if his wallet survives.

 

It was tangentially about criminal charges, but only about referrals... You mentioned Bragg, but she mentioned SDNY.... The Federales....

Also, @ShadowX , keep in mind that James recently interviewed Trump, and he pleaded the 5th over 100 times. That can't be held against him in a criminal court, but it can be held against him in a civil case.

 

Someone isn't reading. I said his Org faced criminal charges. I read, so I know that it wasn't HER that brought those charges, and I never claimed such nonsense. Vance's team brought the criminal indictment, not James.
