I wonder how much Medicare will get bumped. Not many left that received such a boost but a lot of us have seen token raises that got swallowed by Medicare.

Biden is so senile he really does believe money grows on trees.

Children, not even born today, are going to be saddled with all the debt, and consequently the highest tax burden, and all because the Biden administration is vote buying. :steamed:

All of it started long before Biden, but for NOW I'll take what they give me while I'm still alive.

Buy the moon with printed money, let future generations suffer for it.

Biden admin didn't invent it, but they sure playing the F out of it...

At this rate, the 'future generation' that suffers the collapse will just be us, in the near future.

I hope yall got plenty of food stored up...

Joe Biden has nothing to do with social security increases. That was legislation passed by legislative branch and signed by Gerald Ford.

Not exactly true. Had Joe attempted to control inflation, the increase may not have been so large. Since he did all that he could do in order to make inflation worse, he does bare some responsibiliy.

    Such as?

What was the other parties plan?

Rising inflation is a global problem

    • An international comparison among OECD countries shows that rising inflation is a global phenomenon, not unique to the United States.
    • This fact argues strongly that high inflation in the U.S. has not been driven by any unique American policy—not the American Rescue Plan and other generous fiscal relief during the pandemic recession and recovery nor anything else U.S.-centric.
    • Some have argued that the global rise of inflation means that many countries— including the U.S.—overstimulated their economies and generated excess aggregate demand. But this explanation is not supported by the data. The countries with larger declines in unemployment over the past 18 months have not seen larger inflation spikes.

That is your answer? What did someone else want to do? Joe is the POTUS, not someone else. Dems have control of the spending stick, not someone else.

If the increase had been less, the typical "f Biden" flag fliers would whine that he wants to starve seniors. He can't please those people, no matter what he does.

If we can hand out 400B to pay off loans I think we should be able to find enough somewhere to feed seniors and pay their medical bills. They are the ones who paid those same bills for the generation now running the country.
The US economy runs on oil and petroleum products. Screw with that and you upset the balance and things get messy. Happens every time. You can post all your graphs and comments by really, really smart people if that's your thing but this is the simple truth.

If the increase would have been less, then inflation would have been less since the latter controls the former. I would hope that most people would take 4% less of a raise if they didn't see an 10% rise in the cost of living.

The reason for the suspected problem with SS and Medicare ...From an article
    https://www.kff.org/policy-watch/me...r-the-new-alzheimers-drug-and-why-it-matters/

After much anticipation, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that Medicare will cover the new Alzheimer’s drug, Aduhelm, subject to evidence development. This preliminary National Coverage Determination (NCD) comes after months of handwringing over the potential impact of this new high-priced drug on Medicare spending and a substantial Medicare Part B premium increase that took effect in January 2022. CMS proposes to cover Aduhelm and similar FDA-approved antiamyloid monoclonal antibody treatments under Coverage with Evidence Development (CED) for patients participating in CMS-approved or NIH-supported randomized clinical trials, which will help to generate the evidence that CMS suggests is currently lacking regarding whether Aduhelm is reasonable and necessary for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

While this decision, which will be finalized in April 2022, proposes the terms of Medicare coverage of these treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, the Aduhelm story is not likely to end here. Only one day before the preliminary NCD was issued, HHS Secretary Becerra directed CMS to reassess the monthly Medicare Part B premium for 2022 in light of the announcement from Biogen, the drug’s manufacturer, that it was slashing the price of Aduhelm by 50% from $56,000 to $28,200 in response to anemic demand for the new drug.

Back in November 2021, prior to the release of the preliminary national coverage determination and the drop in the price of Aduhelm, CMS announced a 14.5% hike in the Medicare Part B premium for 2022. The increase in the premium – from $148.50 in 2021 to $170.10 in 2022 – was based on a “high-cost” scenario that took into account the potential increase in Medicare Part B spending for Aduhelm, among other factors (Figure 1). CMS attributed about half of the premium increase to the need to boost revenues to cover higher projected Part B spending for this one drug alone.

Why not create a separate pot o' gold dedicated to this one disease? Think $400 B to forgive student loans.

Seems you loose the essence of the way prices can be concocted to ruin a situation.
Always blame someone other than the real culprit.
The last "bolded" part of the article shows how the problem is being rectified.

Social Security increases for cost of living adjustments is required by law and is usually 0.5% below the CPI index. It happens every year with last year and this year seeing law increases to keep up with inflation.

As I said, a person who treats the elderly and the vulnerable this way truly shows their true colors as a human being, not for the good it will do you.

Did not intend to bold that. My keyboard took over and I couldn't find a way to reset it.

The real culprit is the disease but telling people who are afflicted with it or the people who love them that there is a new drug that may offer a way out, but you can't afford it? Who do we blame for that. We just spent trillions on a ****ing super flu vaccine that didn't really deliver much more than a Presidency. "It will keep you from getting sick... very sick... hospitalized... dying...oh ****, it will make it a mild case."

Alzheimer's is real and if there is a treatment it is criminal not to make it available. I'm pretty old and have accepted I am at the end of life stage. Every day is something extra and I cherish it. Dying alone while everyone you know is in the room with you is a horrible thought. If we can't find the money for something like this it's because we don't care enough to want to.

That would only work if inflation was cost-push inflation. However, our inflation is demand-pull inflation, or in other words, demand outweighs supply. Bear in mind, we have had huge deficits in the 1980s, early 2000s, 2010s, and in the last administration, yet, no significant inflation occurred, did it.

Supply has been disrupted from the border stunts in Texas to Covid protocols internationally to politics with chips and other key parts with tariffs and other political gimmicking in the last administration.

The only product Texas has restricted to any degree has been drugs and that hasn't been significant.
