‘They Have Nothing to Lose’: Why Young Iranians Are Rising Up Once Again
It looks like the people of Iran have had enough. Maybe they will finally have freedom, economic prosperity, and no more restrictive theocracy.

But, remind me again why Iran is important to us again? I forgot.

Oh well, I only hope this unrest leads to real change, unlike the Arab Spring that just sputtered out and actually hurt the places where it took place.

Because Iran is ruled by religious fanatics whose sole goal is getting to PARADISE, that key to attaining that is killing "infidels" (that's us), so they don't really care about dying or what happens to Iran as long as they get to PARADISE... and they are building nukes.

It sounds like the Iranian protesters/revolutionaries need arms. Will someone come through for them?

I don't know about that. Remember that Obama armed the Syrian Islamics, and it was a total failure.

He was all limp-wristed when Russia stepped in to prop up Assad. His failure in Syria has nothing to do with this situation. Anyway, I would expect the Israelis to step up, as they care most about what happens in Iran, and by extension Syria since Iran is operating proxies there.

Unemployment (and underemployment) rates in Iran are pretty high, especially amoung younger adult persons under 30 to 35.

The overall unemployment rate in the country is estimated to be around 12 percent. By U.S. or European standards, that would be like a really bad recession, except one that just continues to go on and on. For younger Iranians the unemployment rate is more like 27%.
40% of Iranian college graduates cannot find jobs.

Iran is not a "First World" country, more like a "Second World" country.

You mean the college graduates can't find work in their field of study. Iran must be a backwards place and the only employment is hard work in the fields and mines. And this situation is my greatest fear. That this generation can't study our way out of a hard life in strenuous work with low pay. Even here in America I can see the writing on the wall.

No, I mean the college graduates cannot find any work that is even close to what someone would typically "expect" a college graduate to be able to get.

Typical work is low paying work in the service sector. Many women become maids in someone else's middle class household, for example.

Iran still is attracting illegal immigrants from Afghanistan who work in the construction sector. The pay is very low. The Iranian government only half tolerates the illegal immigrants, half ignoring the issue, but they will often do something if someone reports them. So the employers make the construction workers hide on site and they are not allowed to freely wander off.

In Iran the main reason men want a decent paying job is so they can attract a woman. In that society, men don't just "date". If you can't get a women who considers you as a marriage prospect, then you will be alone.

The Iranian people themselves are actually pretty intelligent and civilized, it's not like other parts of the Middle East.

Which seems to be normal today. I couldn't find a job out of college either, and I had to work for my dad on the farm because no one would hire me either.
Which is also the state of affairs in the west as well. They say that many millennials delayed having children because of the Great Recession. And, I know that I would never consider getting married without an income to back that up.

It seems like the second-world problems are the same ones as first-world problems as far as I'm concerned.

Still not the same thing. You were probably in a more rural area. In Iran, this is the case for people in city areas too, the entire country.

The thing is, if people do not have children in their 20s, they are statistically less likely to have any children, and it is more probable that they will have fewer children.

If no one had children in their 20s, it's almost a certainty that the overall replacement rate would be below 2 in that population group, meaning the population would decline over successive generations.

I'm not sure of the exact statistics but I think something like fewer than 1 in 3 babies are born to women over the age of 30.

    The beginning of The End?

RELIGION OF PEACE UPDATE: In Horrific Move, Iran’s Parliament Votes to Execute 15,000 Protestors to Teach ‘Hard Lesson.’

Throughout human history when a small group rules a larger group, by force, at some point the larger group revolts and destroys the smaller group. This was the key insight of the American founding. In our system all legitimate power is derived from the larger group, so it's never necessary for the larger group to revolt to regain the power that they already hold. As a result we are the longest surviving democracy in existence and one of the longest surviving governments of any type, existing today.

The peculiar Iranian 40 day cycle. 'According to the Shi'ite customs, memorial services (chehelom) are held 40 days after a person's death. Encouraged by Khomeini (who declared that the blood of martyrs must water the "tree of Islam"), radicals pressured the mosques and moderate clergy to commemorate the deaths of the students, and used the occasion to generate protests. The informal network of mosques and bazaars, which for years had been used to carry out religious events, increasingly became consolidated as a coordinated protest organization.'

So the cycle was set that would bring down the Shah. Clash with loss of life. 40 days later a bigger clash that resulted in more deaths, 40 days after that a bigger wave, until the government fell.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_Revolution#Approaching_revolution_(1978)

They are going to execute 15,000 in an act desperation to hold power.

'This is horrifying. The Iranian parliament votes overwhelmingly (227-63) to execute the 15,000 protesters they already arrested. These were peaceful protestors simply seeking the right to basic justice and autonomy. Unacceptable and barbaric.'

This beautiful young woman was beaten to death by government forces for being caught without a bee suit.

May the government come to their senses before they murder all these young people.

@Zorro why dig up another thread when the issue was already dealt with in another one that has been active?

No, 15,000 protesters in Iran were not sentenced to death

So far only one protester reportedly received a death sentence. But human rights groups warn future sentences could be handed down without warning or due process.

I posted this in the other thread. I will repost it here too.

Around 20 of the "protesters" who have been charged, could face capital punishment based on the charges against them. To give some context, here are 11 among those facing possible capital punishment.

Iran's government is brutal. I arrived in Iraq in 2003 and immediately traveled to my duty station on the Iranian border at Camp Caldwell.
When I arrived there were a bunch of folks huddled around a TV watching Iranian television. The news was showing a ten year old boy that had stolen a piece of candy from a store. They had him spreadeagled on a road as they drove a truck over his arm. That was my introduction to the region.

What is really terrible is the lies, including that nonsense story by @AARguy which is either fictitious entirely or the product of some montage by a terrorist group (e.g. MEK) based in Iraq at the time focused on spreading false tales, fake news, and doctored videos. All feeding nicely into preconceived notions and prejudices built up through propaganda of much longer pedigree.

It's important to the US, since the US ones organized a coup against a normally functioning democracy to installed a violent fascist regime whose strings were pulled from within the US embassy. With the political parties all banned, the only force left in Iran was it's religious organization. And they took their country back by kicking out the fascists as well the core of the problem: the US embassy. The US can not get over it, that their criminal neo-colonial human exploitation scheme got uprooted by those brown muslims.

My story is 100% true. I had retired from the Army and signed up with Vinnell Corporation as a contractor to train the NEW Iraqi Army at KMTB (Kir Kush Military Training Base) which was colocated with an Armored Cavalry Battalion at Camp Caldwell. I went into the HQ with my duffel bag in my hand when we arrived at KMTB. It was after hours and the OD and a few folks were sitting around a TV watching the horrible scene. It was a testament to the viciousness of the radical Sharia law that ruled Iran that they actually televised this horrible event. Keep your head in the sand about such horrors if you wish.
By the way, I have PowerPoint presentation that I authored about the training of the 1st Battalion of the NEW Iraqi Army from the arrival of the recruits through their graduation on 3 Oct 03. Let me know if you'd like a copy.

I don't know what you saw but I lived and worked in Iran, and raised a family there, from 2005 until few years ago. I also spent the entire summer in Iran this year. What you imagine about Iran is utter nonsense. And none of it has anything to do with any "PowerPoint presentation that [you] authored about the training of the 1st Battalion of the NEW Iraqi Army from the arrival of the recruits through their graduation on 3 Oct 03" for me to have any interest in.
