DeSantis, who opposed Hurricane Sandy relief, now desperate for Biden's aid as Ian ravages Florida

He said he would only support the increases in national flood insurance if there were offsets in other expenditures to compensate. What programs are being offset to accommodate the federal government giving aid to Florida. I am not against Florida receiving aid because no one can predict natural disasters. I'm just curious as to how the situation is different that would cause De Santis to approve of federal aid.

 

But what about all the inflation that will happen in Florida from this government package? Won't it put Florida worse off? Do you think De Santis then was selfish to think of only Florida when he voted against giving government relief to New York? Do you think Florida should receive aid or should senators only think about the welfare of their individual states?

 

Florida citizens are eligible to receive all benefits that other citizens receive. No one is excluding them. So using the above examples as evidence that Florida deserves more is unsatisfactory.

Federal Aid is not an insurance program that has to be purchased and has unlimited funding power. The National flood insurance is a supplemental insurance program that has to be purchased which needs offsets in order to continue.

Federal aid are grants provided by the federal government for disasters. Not insurance policies. You are listening to false media claims trying to politicize the situation just to stab at DeSantis.

DeSantis support for actual loses due to Sandy. What he objected to was an outright slush fund bailing out NY for things which had absolutely nothing to do with storm damage.

Furthermore, if those blue states want to take the minorities who receive those social programs in a grossly disproportionate number, you’re welcome to have them along with their lack of production, drugs and violent crime.

In reality, this is just more of conservative hypocrisy on display. They HATE paying any taxes, but they LOVE the government benefits coming their way when THEY are in a time of need. It's just that they can never pictures themselves in any time of need, until that time actually comes. And then they do all kind of mental gymnastics to justify why THEIR government bailout isn't socialism, but other people's is. It's all about seeing themselves deserving, and others as undeserving moochers. I am not going to get into who the ones are they usually label "moochers".

 

Sorry but he agreed with the first package for Sandy relief. He opposed the other bill that had a bunch of pork in it that hd little to do with “Sandy” relief.

It was a typical Pork bill named one thing but disguised as another per usual. He did NOTHING wrong.

Yes exactly. Dems are good at hiding money for their pet projects in a bill for something else, and when someone opposes the bill for that very reason, they start pointing fingers just as in this thread. You can explain it to them 100x, but they will ignore it and still claim that they didn't want relief for Sandy victims. That's why threads like this are useless to debate. Dems never want to face the truth.

 

This would be equivalent to congress creating a relief package for FL and hiding 10 billion to build the border wall in it, and any dem who opposed the bill because of that, you could point fingers and claim they didn't want to help Floridians.
