That sickly economy and bleak prospects is because the US destroyed single handedly pulled out an agreement with multiple countries and bullies the country with lavish economic sanctions while Iran kept it's promises, and because of the Iranian regime. So most of their troubles they have is because of the US. They can deal with their own religion.
