no power whatsoever was given to the federal government and it was restricted from infringing on the right of each citizen-acting in a private capacity-to keep and bear arms. the militia act gave the federal government some powers as to what arms someone in federal service would use.

yeah but most states have their own second amendment provisions (often ignored or crapped upon) and with incorporation, we have the most interesting issue of once legitimate state police powers running into the incorporated second amendment.

As it should be. There was a gun possession or right question on my state midterm ballot...It passed, BTW. The 2ND should go away. Let the states decide.

    Wow. An impossibly ignorant statement.
-States do not have the right to violate the constitution
-The constitution does not protect the right to abortion
    There you go.

2A is clear enough. "Shall not be" says it all.

It literally lays out the history of the amendment, your supposition is simply baseless.

I've already pointed you to the parts of the constitution (art 1 Sec 8) which grant congress powers. The bill of rights ain't that.

This reminds me of Biden. He makes a statement and then the WH comes out with an explanation of what "The president really meant to say".

You are trying to justify your position by saying "This what 2A amendment writers really meant to say."

And you need to read Heller, McDonald, and Bruen.

Right. I'm from Iowa. In case SCOTUS throws the 2ND to the states, it may be a good idea for the people of states to share their ideas on gun ownership in a referendum vote so to speak.

Why do you refuse to read history on the subject?

Realize any amendment is a change to The Constitution. For example, amendment 10 about limiting the power of the federal gov't is in play until the 14-16 amendments where the federal gov't wields power over states (with amendments 14- 16).

Why do you refuse to understand that when -you- make a claim, onus is on -you- to back it?
I mean other than the fact you know you cannot back your claims.

Why do you not understand the states do not have the right to violate the constitution?

Why would you assume I have not read the history? Just because I disagree with you? Where in history did the meaning of the words "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." get changed?

You've moved from ridiculous to absurd.

Instead of trying to BS people that know more than you, I think you'd be better off if you just start advocating the repeal of the second amendment at least that's honest
