I think she will be known in the history books more for her stock trading genius than her house speaker abilities.

Is that the best dodge you got? YES the TOPIC. And she was Speaker of the HOUSE not Speaker of the DEMOCRATS that is the job of the Senate MAJORITY LEADER. So what in her role as Speaker of the House the LEADER of the House of Representative, you know the WHOLE HOUSE votes on the who is the Speaker, was her most effective act for the COUNTY.

 

She is Speaker of the HOUSE and is elected by the whole HOUSE she is not the Speaker of the Democrats elected by the Democrats that is the Senate Majority leader. Her job is to get the entire House to pass legislation and get both sides together and get agreements signed. What was the success was it for the Democrats or for the American people? How was America better for her success?

She is the Speaker of the House because more Democrats than Republicans were elected. Now, Kevin McCarthy is (and was in the past). All speakers are there to represent their own party platforms, which are supposed to be to the benefit of all Americans but often are not. She is not there to defend what the Republicans want because evidently she does not believe that what the Republicans want is going to be helpful to all Americans. McCarthy has done the same for the Republicans.

McConnell refused to even put to a vote anything he did not personally agree to and he was the Speaker of the Senate. At least Pelosi allowed issues to be discussed and put to a vote. McConnell did not.

America is better for her success because she showed strength against adversity. She showed women are as good as men. She showed determination and perseverance on the beliefs of her party. You think everyone is like that? Heck, most people would cave in rapidly under the circumstances she endured. Most people are not anywhere near as strong and gritty in doing their job against enemies constantly hounding you as she was able to be.

My hat is off to her. She earned my respect.

 

In addition and in 2019, Caroline Kennedy (the only surviving daughter of John F Kennedy), honored Nancy Pelosi with the JFK profile in courage award. What a high award from one of the most honored American families. That award is not given by happenstance. It is earned.

Is that supposed to be impressive? I would be more surprised if she did NOT receive that award at some point during her long speakership.

All the Speaker needs is 218 votes to become Speaker. The Speaker is the head of their caucus. His/her responsibility is to the party's agenda. One presumably that is considered good for the country by party members. If compromise can reached with the minority party on legislation all the better. But given the House passes bills with a simple majority it isn't necessary.

Maybe before she leaves the House as speaker, she could take a hard, honest look in the mirror and ask herself how she contributed to the political division. She led the calvary with not one, but two baseless impeachments. Nancy Pelosi's classless acts are many. Lying while she attempted to paint the POTUS a traitor, a colluder with Putin. "All roads lead to Putin". Tearing up a sitting president's SOTU speech defines her dishonorable legacy as Speaker. She is more responsible for the polarization of US politics than all others.

Years ago I met Ms. Pelosi for a 30 minute one-on-one briefing. I found her engaged and knowledgeable. So I was especially disappointed years later by her damaging about-face on enhanced interrogations. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11 she was among those calling for the harshest measures to encourage captured terrorists to talk. Later, she seemed to forget that and joined the critics of enhanced interrogation.
