Avatar was a beautiful film but about as "deep" as "Fern Gully" and Atlas Shrugged was even worse. Thank you for proving my point.
I never said anything about the "depth" of the setting, just the characters. And it seems like you just have something against sci fi. Which is fine. Everyone has their tastes.
It is a sequel and there is a lot of sympathy for the main actor who played T'Challa by Chadwick Boseman who died of cancer. The first film was a major success. this film I have heard mixed reviews. And the Wikipedia plot summary does not make this a "black nationalist" film at all.
You have my apologies for my mistaken impression that you were talking about anything involving the topic. My mistake.
Didn't see that in the OP's article. It talked about the "dire straits" of movie theaters and how inflation is impacting moviegoers.
Probably watch it when it's out on disc (rental, I have all the streamers but the BD discs still look better except 4k). Don't go to the movies much now. Cost and not having many to go with since my kid grew up and emigrated and my wife quit watching movies about 10 years back. I watch most stuff on an OLED TV these days with quality surround headphones and for me that's as good as it gets. Don't agree with black only screenings and I'm black/native. I'm pretty sure most of my black friends would feel the same, especially because so many are in mixed families so it seems a bit ridiculous. Thought the first film was OK and was visually fantastic. there's something very formulaic about the Marvel movies now. Even the poor ones are guaranteed to look ok so it's hard for the good ones to distinguish themselves. I thought Thor Ragnarok was one of the best because it was so funny and I'm not even a big Thor fan.
They are expensive, an 65 inch OLED can be had for $1500.00 or less. Shame though. I do like the movies but I just don't go anymore. Parking, high tickets (though I get senior discounts), six dollar cokes etc. I can get a six pack of decent beer from Trader Joe's for that.
There is a movie theater in my area that does $3 Saturdays and they show the latest movies. That is when I go, but then again, a whole bunch of teenagers are there, with some making out in the movie theater on the back row. For me, I am more selective about which movies I will go see. But I like the dinner and the movie concept with Studio Movie Grill.
You are right and that is something I will do maybe once or twice per year. I guess I just forgot since the Covid shutdowns. Steak sandwich and a margarita certainly helps.
