It just so happens that this occurred just 1 week ago. He stated his statement about "very fine people" last week. This was not "years ago". In addition, he has yet to condemn these people for what they have said last week.

I doubt that he knows anything about the history of Germany's short lived National Socialist Party or anything about Hitler, the man.

However, he knew very well that he wouldn't achieve his objective if he'd said: "I like Mao" who is said to be responsible for the deaths of far more people and "I like Stalin" or "I like Pol Pot" wouldn't have caused near the controversy or gotten him the attention he wanted in the first place.

You're missing some context (which is understandable- it was a long interview and Ye was all over the place...) But he also said "I love Jews" and "I love the Zionists that blocked my bank accounts" and "I love everyone."

The most pertinant thing he said imo (and I'll paraphrase) was 'They said we're [n-word]s, so we call eachother '[n-word]' now. They said our women are bitches, so we call our women 'bitch' now. Now they say I'm a Nazi. You see what I'm sayin?'
