    I disagree.
Russia is not winning the war.
    Quite the opposite.

Then why is the war still going on and Russia actually occupying less territory than it used to?

Yeah but you havn't shown the faintest idea about what "winning" looks like .... no sign of awareness of the geopolitical chessboard nor how the pieces move .. never mind being able to give a coherent assessment of the position on the board.

Europe may suffer through one winter just so they can be better off in future winters having no longer to deal with Russian energy.

Russia can look good for a few months only on the energy sector, but after that once his former customers have gone elsewhere, then he will be left with less money and power while losing over 100k men fighting a war he lost.

They seem determined to make up for their losses in poor and convicted men by stealing Ukrainian children, though. They've kidnapped over a million Ukrainians already.

Well, the writer of this OP has himself, had a thread for over 6 months, telling us that Russia has already won the war-- now he says that they're "winning" it. So it sounds like having a factual basis, is not a deciding consideration, behind what will be his talking points.

They invaded and are now being pushed out. It looks like they'll go back to pre 2014 borders too, losing crimea.
Russian bases for strategic bombers are now being tagged 300 miles in border.
Multiple new nations are joining nato that were previously studiously neutral.
Nato is finding use for itself again and is even less likely to dissolve than previously.

The 'board' doesn't look that great after six months for Russia.
    Russian economy looks even worse.
I'd say it's about time Putin and his useful idiots called it a day.

The Russians have been "winning" so much that they're truly getting tired of it, I think.

Both worthless assessments.. pathetic partisan rose colored fantasyland failure.

"losing Crimea" ? "Pushed out" .. "doesn't look great for Russia"

Nothing on the battlefield suggest Russia will lose Crimea .. Russia has moved behind the Natural Border .. "Big River" in the south .. creating a one front war from where Ukraine Crosses the river in the north to the Donesk/separatist region... The counter offensive stalled out in early October .. blew their "wad" so to speak .. fired all their missiles .. and now winter is come .. nothing significant will be done till spring.

So what the frick are you talking about "pushed out" "lose crimea" .. a hopelessly lost assessment of the position .. no idea at all sans some partisan fantasy narrative gleaned from a gazillion sources touting similar silliness.

Not only is Ukraine running out of weapons .. NATO is running out as well .. and can't make more at rate going out ..

Russia is facing similar supply problems . but they are able to inflict massive damage to Ukraine .. while suffering little hunkered down in defensive position. Cost to Ukraine's infrastructure continuing to mount .. and lest we forget the 100,000 dead soldiers .. recent EU estimate .. quickly dismissed by Zelinsky of course .. but it is alot .. either way .. and who be replacing ... NATO boys ? Don't think so .. Nato suing for negotiation ..least the EU part of it .. Biden not far Behind .. pretending to put on a brave face .. Republican Congress won't fund furthur defense spending till vax mandate removed.

NATO countries running out of ammunition as Germany left with '2 days' of stocks
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/worl...nning-out-Germany-defence-spending-Ukraine-vn
Ukraine is not pushing Russia out .. that claim is complete nonsense .. never mind having some real threat of taking Crimea anytime soon .. this war in stall mode until at least Spring .. Russia gaining further defensive advantage with Winter .. while maintaining offensive capacity to punish Ukraine for the smallest incursion.

The cost balance sheet is very much tilted .. The Cost to Ukraine for any gain .. far greater than for Russia to defend.. The Russian Economy is fine on a relative basis .. still has markets for its oil and gas . the EU and US in great pain trying to maintain sanctions. This latest "Cap" idea a complete joke .. the "Cap" is 60 US a barrel .. which is huge money for Russia .. they are currently selling to India around that price .. barrels of cash for Russia ...

He says, as Ukrainian drones strike Soviet strategic bomber bases, 300 miles inside Russia.

I've seen some idiot claiming that we're "closer to nuclear war" just because the Ukrainians blasted a a couple of 60 old Bear bombers.

That's like suggesting the U.S. would be closer to launching a nuclear war just because we lost a couple of B-52s.

Sorry to inform the OP - but there are NO winners in war - only people who lose a little bit less than the other guy.
    You're welcome.

In fairness, the continental united states has only been truly attacked by a belligerent once.
If we got struck by aircraft 300 miles within our border, we'd be pretty ****ing close to bombing someone into the axial age.
Of course, if we had invaded the people who struck us, I'd say we were already at war so maybe its a bit of one a bit of the other.

At this stage the best Russia can do is HOLD territory in Ukraine.
Kill the partisans, gulag its prisoners, withstand the increasingly longer range missiles etc..
And meanwhile watch your economy drifting slowly into irrelevance, inflation and unemployment.

If bombing civilian targets like hospitals, nurseries, and schools is a 'special operation', I wonder what it would take for Russia to call something an 'invasion'. They must have very high standards!

What else can one expect out of desperate Putin? He's really clutching at straws now.

I gave Ukraine less than 2 months to hold the Russians off and fully expected Putin to have firm control over the country by now. I had no clue Russia was so incompetent at warfare and that they were such a "Paper Tiger". NATO should have deployed troops on Ukraine soil and destroyed Russia the moment they crossed the border. Hostilities would be over by now with Putin licking his wounds and "barking" nonsnese from Moscow.

I had a good conversation with some of my friends in the USAF, 2 were Eagle Drivers and we discussed the plans we had in the Cold War to stop a Soviet Invasion through the Fulda Gap on their way to seize the Rhine. It was called the "Reforger Excersies". Looking back on it we now determined that we overestimated the fighting ability of the enemy. At the time, almost every simulation we wargamed ended with NATO forces using tactical nukes to stop the Soviet invasion. Even with 4:1/5:1 kill ratio. In reality, I am guessing the kill ratios would have been closer to 25:1 and Soviet Spearheads would have been decimated almost before they could get a firm foothold on German soil. My friends in the USAF agreed, especially when you add the British and West German contigents into the mix.
