https://issuesinsights.com/2023/03/28/evs-are-the-yugo-of-the-21st-century/ It seems disingenuous to me that the media and the government refuse to address this issue. Doesn’t anyone ask questions of the automakers as to repairability of cars anymore? We talk about the wasteful impact of not recycling and yet we are refusing to ask the question: “What happens if the battery dies?” Is the auto industry selling us disposable cars under the banner of “climate justice” nonsense? If you consider the used car market risky, how risky will it be to buy a SUV with a $20,000 battery close to warranty expiration? We are being gas lighted by the media, government, auto makers, and we are gaslighting ourselves! How stupid is that?
The effort to advance this green agenda is a scam at least as great as the Scamdemic. Some people are getting rich from it, and in the meanwhile all sorts of wildlife, like whales, are being killed to advance a specious claim.
Most people don’t buy EV’s due to “climate change” We got our Tesla because it fit our lifestyle at the time. Hook it up when we get home and there is enough charge to get to work, do client meetings and get home without charging again. Not having to stop and get gas — ever — is an added benefit. Not to mention the way they drive; torque is instant, vehicle is quiet, and no shifting between gears. I have heard of very few people that once they get an EV saying they will never get another and market trends indicate this as well. If you don’t want one don’t get one — I do find it odd to see so many “conservatives” say the government needs to intervene in all areas of life where something exists that they don’t like or agree with. Guess that principle has been revoked as well.
Death of the planet perhaps. It turns out we humans, and probably animals too, can continue to live with those micro plastics in our body.
I figure let them bray and bleat all they want, EVs are already here to stay no matter how much they complain.
Here to stay? A major reason they have as many as they do is that the federal government subsidizes them and their purchase by tax payers. When that stimulus ends, so will the industry.
Not sure if you can accuse them of being disingenuous just because they don't talk about something you want them to talk about. Its the customers responsibility to research the cars they plan to buy.
Why would a fender bender destroy the battery? My guess is that an accident severe enough to destroy the battery would also total an ICE car. This is just more claptrap from the EV haters, who do their best to stand in the way of progress. In the meantime, an EV has 20 essential moving parts, and ICE cars has 2000. That should save a lot of money in maintenance over the years. Imagine, no more transmission breaking, costing you $8,000 on the spot. But, let's beat up on the EV battery. Li ion batteries must be bad, because NOBODY is using them in their cell phones. Oh wait....
I know that, but that doesn't mean the model can succeed in the free market. They all signed onto the Paris Accord of 2015, so they are all in lock step with an agenda like ESG, an agenda that cannot survive without government intervention. The Dutch voters just made a change that might return government policy to sanity, but only time will tell.
I think this is just intellectual luddism. Not understanding something does not mean that it is bad. Did we stop using light bulbs because the earliest iterations burned out?
I haven't figured out why some people hate EVs either. The only thing that I can figure out is that they (meaning all of us) are forced to pay for a portion of someone else's car. If I were going to buy a new car, I would love to get one. I don't agree with the subsidies though. I totally agree with this notion. However, with subsidies, if you don't want one, you still have to help Joe pay for his.
Its political, - the ancient "must defend oil by opposing the green". Its silly. I drive a gas car myself, but have nothing against new technologies.
How would you feel being forced to buy an EV with 80% depreciation, that becomes junk at eight to ten years.(Maybe in the interest of "equity" the poor can steal EV's and take squatters rights.) EV makers have to start coming clean on replacement batteries and repair of damaged vehicles.
And never mind the slave labor to get you your EV.. Shocking video of collapsing cobalt mine shows uncomfortable truth about smartphone batteries
The mining, manufacturing and disposal of the batteries is the environmental nightmare the left ignores.
I have nothing against new technologies and literally praise advances in all batteries because I use a lot of them. Where I live, Las Cruces, NM, an EV would amount to nothing more than a golf cart to tool around town in. Once you leave this area there is nothing for miles, no place to recharge if you had to. It’s an hour to Deming, and hour to Alamogordo, three hours to Albuquerque with only two possible stops in between, and four hours to Roswell with a few stops in between. I’m going to go out on a limb and say there are no charging stations at those possible stops. If I had to drive to Albuquerque in an EV I would not be able to make it all the way there without somehow recharging and that isn’t done in five minutes. I’d also have to recharge when I get there before I leave and then once again on the drive back, how many hours does that add up to in terms of charging time? For many of us around here an EV is not practical for anyone who has to leave the confines of Las Cruces.
For the 1Mth time, EVs are far more efficient. Seems MAGAs don't want to accept advancements in technology, then wonder why other nations are catching up to the USA.
Put the same subsidies on ICE vdhicles and see how many stick with them. You seem to think it has been a purely free market thingy. Germany backing off and causing problems with the EU. Germany threatens to hold up EU’s combustion-engine car ban Germany’s transport minister said Tuesday that his country won’t back a planned European Union ban on the sale of new cars with combustion engines from 2035, after failing to get assurances from the bloc’s executive for an exemption on synthetic fuels. EU lawmakers and member states reached a preliminary deal last year that would force carmakers to reduce new car emissions by 55% in 2030 relative to 2021 levels, and by 100% in 2035. The plan, which is part of the bloc’s effort to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, effectively means that the sale of new cars which burn hydrocarbon-based fuels such as petroleum would be banned. Some countries, such as Germany, had asked the EU’s executive Commission to come up with an exemption for cars that burn so-called e-fuels, arguing that they can be produced using renewable energy and carbon captured from the air, so they wouldn’t spew further climate-changing emissions into the atmosphere.... https://apnews.com/article/germany-...te-cars-2035-c11e4fb08df5d219c35548259039ce26 They've seen the folly.
Exactly. I think many people are programmed into thinking the only reason to buy an EV is because they are into saving the environment. Does that mean if you buy a gas powered vehicle you hate the environment?
I don't think so. EV's is just new technology that is still going through its paces. Imagine a 1910 car in today's time. Would you say that 1910 style cars are Yugos back then or even today? Auto manufacturer companies are going through the process of trial, testing, implementation, evaluation, and change. The auto companies have been doing this for over a century now, then got complacent in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, and now are in the process again with EVs. We have GM, Tesla, BMW, Nissan, and a few others are all testing the possibility of EVs since that is what consumers want, believe it or not. https://www.automotiveworld.com/articles/are-electric-vehicles-still-the-future-of-automotive/ https://www.wsj.com/articles/electric-vehicles-ev-hybrid-china-energy-battery-recharge-11667858720 https://www.wsj.com/articles/are-el...-vehicles-tesla-coal-fossil-fuels-11666725770
