I understand it as meaning prejudice, hostility and/or discrimination against Jews.

In some senses, it can be used to describe the same sentiments against semitic people in general - but as when it was originally coined it referred to prejudicial attitudes towards the Jewish people, the more common usage does refer to anti Jewish sentiment.

It never was intended to be used to describe criticism of a nation's policies - although a lot of posters here do seem to think that is what it means.

 

What counts as criticism of a nation's policies and what counts as sentiments against its ethnic identity and by extension that of the majority population? How aboput this for example: 'Israel' is the last vestige of nazism, a smelly little racist colony devoted to murder and theft?
