In today's economic downturn, the regular person cannot be relied on to conduct major economic descions. That is why America needs a temporary socialist in charge to get everything back on track. Then when everything is stablized. We revert back to a captalist. Look at Germany. A socialist turned capitalist. Crushed from war, they still were producing more at the end of the war than they where at the start. We need this temporary change. We need to keep the right people in the right positions. Who agree's

actually most Americans made good decisions, it was the fact the government turned their back on the average citizen and allowed the bigger banks to exploit them. The government made the changes to the laws that were necessary to set up the financial crisis, sorry I want the government to do its job, quit telling me what to do, and enforce the law! Make the CEO's accountable for the actions of their companies!

We already have a socialist, hopefully it is only temporary.

Good point. But, I have to raise the old one about "just because the credit card company gave you a $10,000 limit doesn't mean you had to use it."

But you are right. Socialism when things are tough is the wrong way to go. Look at any socialist government in Canada under the NDP. They do OK in good times, but have a nasty habit of turning good times into bad and making bad times even worse.

Get rid of the spending sluts and things will improve. They always do.

Oh, wasn't John Galt Ayn Rand's king of the capitalists?

    How very odd...

We have people who think this way in California, I'm embarrassed to say.

The government pressured the banks into giving out these loans. The banks didn't want to even when the laws were passed. Not till after NAACP and ACORN started protesting the banks and calling them racist while getting congress people in their corner to "nudge" the banks did the banks actually start doing the crappy loans.

Couldn't disagree more. The exact opposite of what we need is more socialism. Let people make there own (*)(*)(*)(*) decisions. If people can't be expected to make their own decisions how can you expect people to make decisions for others?

We don't need a unified government, we need less government.

It was a twin effort, a sort of symbiosis between state and private enterprise by any intelligible account. Suggesting otherwise is simply playing partisan.

People make their own decisions with socialism, its the beauty of the particular system. The pseudo socialism you are refering to is sort of what FDR's response was as that adminstration had as a response to avoid socialism. Which was more government. Welfare and other forms of government assistance had became a noticable necessity for a capitalist system to manage of the perils of laissez faire had become very easily elucidated.

Before I actually respond to your post, can you explain to me the discrepancy between your username and that which you seem to be advocating?
    Edit
And also it's worthwhile to point out that most modern socialists are in favor of radical democracy which would entail that 'the people' still have total control over economic activity.

    Great question.

Not a fan of posters who thread, and then run away. Seems trollish.

This is a strange position for one named 'JohnGalt' to adapt.

Like it or not, it's not the size, it's the fact that we don't have a plan both sides can agree upon.

It's a cause yes, as with many others. The real issue however is the lack of an unified government.

We have socialism...for the banks and large corporations. So, Obama is actually a socialist, just not the kind that his voters thought he would be.

    I'm a bit bemused.

It was socialists who created the Wall St meltdown and took you into 2 losing wars?

Then exported half your jobs to China?

Yes, the "Greenspan put" (Fed chairman during creation of the bubble) guaranteed the largest banks they they were "too big to fail." Guarantee me that if I make bets and lose, you'll bail me out, and I'll guarantee you that I take ridiculous risks. Boom, socialism for the banks.

That's not to mention the compassionate Clinton pushing for banks to relax lending to people who could not afford it in the name of equality.

The war was for the Anglo Socialist World Order. The middle east must be under the control of the globalists or else they could not establish their dream of controlling the planet.

    Bush = communist.

I thought the FED was a creature of the banks? Are your banks socialist too?

They socialize their failures on the people, and reap the benefits during the good times.

You mean they expect the poor to pay for their failures?
