Not really, if theres a prego 25 year old woman and her mans at work, how she going to defend herself, or how about an 80 year old woman, you saying its cowardly to give her a way to defend herself?

In Australia, we don't worry about such things.

 

Yall have 22mil pop, we have over 300mil, crime is bound to increase with population, and besides we have the most agressive culture, we also arent some wanna-be british colony.

 

There is a difference between Austrailia and America, its not every nation is identical, if you came here you might see why guns are important. Until then you are ignorant

 

IMO this whole thread is moot. If I was a criminal who wanted to commit a crime with a gun but could not obtain said gun because they were banned, then I would just head to the nearest hardware store and buy all the supplies I needed to make my own gun. With a little practice I could make guns more powerful than the ones law abiding citizens can purchase presently. No government has any right to take away law abiding citizens right to protect themselves. As far as individuals from other countries commenting on our second amendment rights, what works in Australia is not necessarily going to work in the Unitied States. They're two different countries with two different cultural evolution tracks.

What I think would be an interesting compilation is a list of home-owners who used a gun to successfully protect home and family.

Just googling "homeowner shoots intruder" brings up a huge amount of these occurances. It seems to be a common occurance in OK.....people protecting their family with guns.

Just a couple of weeks ago---a woman shot an intruder, after 20 minutes speaking with 911 (no cop in sight, but the intruder was in her sites). I don't know if I would be able to do it...but my husband would, and I feel safer knowing that.

 

You would miss most defensive gun uses. I know several people who have used guns to defend themselves and their homes from intruders, but none actually fired a shot. In each case the intruder ran away, and the resident declined to shoot a fleeing felon.

 

I don't know what people are like in Australia, but here people are pretty smart. A gun is almost always a last resort. By the time a person feels so threatened that he/she needs to pull out a firearm, the verbal negotiation has either failed or the situation is beyond talk, and its time for a different kind of negotiation.

A gun itself is a strong deterent and a great equalizer. It doesn't have to be fired to stop a bad situation from becoming worse.

In fact a handgun with a laser sight generally puts an immediate stop to a situation. Its amazing the power of that little red dot flickering on some guys chest.

 

Why is the rest of the world concerned about our guns? Got to be jealous. I tell yeah a real gun will grow your pecker 3 inches, give a woman at least one cup size and a real vehicle with a V8 will give it a couple more.

So to recap big guns, big tits and big cars yeah you guy are jealous

 

More a curoisty maybe, that the usa view to guns hasnt changed in a few centuries. originally created to defend against a british invasion but for some reason still in effect.

Although now the excuses have changed, defending from an internal invasion from fellow americans.

But do you know any of those killed because of gun prevalence or perhaps battered wives who have been threatened by guns?

Do you think we could like this to the 'death penalty'? Folk have wondered why the US, compared to other civilised countries, stands out with its insistence on using such barbaric practices. It has been suggested that its an off-shoot of a lynch-mob mentality and encouraged by a need to reinforce a homogeneous set of conservative values. Same here?
