Here ya go folks, BroncoBilly is supporting a tax by the liberals....sort of. I am ok with taxing this stuff, as long as the money received goes for what it is intended for, not some general fund bull(*)(*)(*)(*) like politicians usually do.

I do wonder how all you liberals will support this, being that the abuse is more likely from the poor.

Billy has become a liberal/progressive, cheering the efforts of big brother government policies?? Say it ain't so!!

You tax sugar more, and food costs rise and welfare checks go up and everybody who earns their own way has higher food costs and more tax burden. Good grief when is stupidity going to stop??

A punitive tax on sugar will go into the general fund and only be used to feed the big government monster.

I thought you wanted to simplify the tax code?

There is already a tax on sugar in the form of obesity and shorter life expectancy. Any monetary deterrent outside of market forces is merely a form of social engineering. Unfortunately for those of us that support liberty, the majority of the population sway with the wind as far as their support for social engineering on a case by case basis.

You may be right there, I was only thinking since we have to pay for their unhealthy care anyway, why not have them subsidize themselves?

I would not support the normal bull(*)(*)(*)(*) that comes from politicians that have a specific tax that they spend from the general fund. They did it in California when you bought gas, part of that gallon was a fee to pay for road improvement. As it turned out, they put it in the general fund and spent it elsewhere, now we have some of the worst roads in America.

I understand, I was more in line with like tobacco tax, I don't want to pay for those that smoke, they need to pay for their own coffin nails.

We tax payers pay a high price in health care now, and with trend of obesity it is going to get worse.

No it would never fly!! It is discriminatory. I am sick of hearing how the impoverished areas eat bad and blah, blah. I completely discount anything from the original source.

I have to say I'm surprised, Bronco. This tax will dramatically increase food prices. If you want to eat less sugar, that's fine, just don't run to the Government to force my hand.

Just plain BS. They add a sugar tax...then everything that has sugar in it goes up to cover the tax that the producers of those products have to pay. The government pulls that one off and then they will be taxing salt. Same result. It doesn't start or end with a few cents tax at the grocery check out counter. It will worm it's way into most everything we purchase, foodwise.

Good post. Everyone should be free but take personal responsibility. If you want to be fat that is your problem. If you show up at a hospital though and drive up costs you should have to pay for it.

The problem with the proposal is they are aiming to change behavior not merely cover costs. I don't know if the money will go straight to health care or instead be abused as you fear.

Great, another group of people will join us smokers in the discriminatory lifestyle tax...for our own good of course.

Thanks for letting the Camels nose in the tent America. by accepting the campaign of disdain for smokers, and not squawking as we've been and continue to be squeezed, you told them you supported this.

    Now it's your turn.

    Enjoy.

Fructose (Noun): A sugar of the hexose class found esp. in honey and fruit.

    It's a sugar isn't it?

Well you leaches drive up health care costs for all of us so you should have to pay your fair share. Take some personal responsibility for your reckless habits and quit expecting the rest of society to pick up the tab. This is America for crying out loud.
