I do not use the uneducated unwashed masses as my guide for how a language is supposed to be spoken. This is like Dr. Laura listening to an uneducated criminal use the "N word" and assuming it is acceptable vs listening to the black president of the United States who never uses that word. I don't emulate low-lifes.

I was referring to the "Queen's" English.

You want to start watching at 0:55. The whole thing is worth a watch... particularly for the racists that don't realize that there are ghettos filled with uneducated white people.

Most of the subs I've worked with are retired teachers or otherwise unemployed or "unemployable" teachers. Depends on the state, I suppose.

It goes up and down depending on the economy; in better times, the certified teachers are employed, and the districts are scraping the bottom of the barrel to get SOMEONE in the classroom. It also depends on the district, I'd imagine. I'd say 80% of the substitutes with my district have no experience teaching full-time as either classroom teachers or interns (student teaching).

The mockney accent in the clip is hexcruciatingly hawful!

Mockney (a portmanteau of "mock" and "Cockney") is an affected accent and form of speech in imitation of Cockney or working class London speech, or a person with such an accent. A stereotypical Mockney speaker comes from an upper-middle class background.

This is the public education thread, where errors and non-errors are corrected with equal vigor, people give teachers a hard time, teachers loose their cool and pat one another on the back.

Yes they do, as do Australians and New Zealanders,, unless the speaker is uneducated, just lazy or an Eastender.

By the way,, herb is pronounced "herb" not "erb"!

I had an exchange teacher from England that made me repete that formula every day at the begining of class.

She told me if I didn't learn anything else I would learn that.

Since I went into construction and later metal fabrication it has served me well.

Best dang math teacher I ever had. I learned how easy math could be.
