Did you give protection money to the school bullies?

There is so much news today about school kids getting bullied and on occasion losing their lives to these bullies that I thought I would go back in time to tell you of my experience with school bullies.

It was the early 60s and I had attended a junior high school in the suburbs seven miles North of Boston. I was thirteen years old in the 8th grade and I had a slim/small physique.

Many if not all of the school bullies were older and bigger kids who by staying back a couple of grades were able to acquire a drivers license at the age of 16 and drive their beaten up jalopies to school. Intimidation seemed to portray their entire presence in and around the school.

The fenced-in recess yard was the perfect venue for the bullies to trap unsuspecting nerds, geeks and lightweights into giving them their lunch monies so as to stave off an ugly ass whipping for being non compliant.

I lucked out by having as a close neighbor and friend one of those older and bigger bullies to protect me from the daily thuggery.

I saw many nerds get blackened eyes for being defiant or just for not having any money on any particular day to satisfy their elders. There was no such thing as student/teacher monitors at recess time back in the day. Even if there was, they, the 'monitors' would have been just as shaken and scared as were the nerds and weaklings who in the end had to succumb and give their monies to the bully lords of the school teen era.

Sad story ... and the crap still goes on, only now I'm sure it's worse for the kids who are bullied......

So some reason known only to them, the schools refuse to do anything about the bully problem. They have strict 'no tolerance' rules such as no drawing a gun on a sheet of paper, 6 yr old Boy Scouts can't bring their BS utensil to school to eat their lunch with b/c that's a 'weapon' and all kinds of lunatic rules that makes no dam sense, but bullies can take over the schools and make the smaller kids' lives miserable, to the point where some victims of bullies have committed suicide and other victims went off the deep end and picked up a gun........

Crazy, sick world we live in........

LMAO... bullies in our school all ended up in jail for murder. Their MO was to stand by the lunch queue and ask if you had "any odds". (any spare change)

If you said no and they didn't believe you, they told you to jump up and down. If you rattled, they lifted you by the ankles and shook you until your money fell out of your pockets. Then you had to pick it up and give it to them and hope they didn't break your nose.

Fortunately, the monitors were not intimidated and they did eject them and protect people. I have an older brother who played sport with the monitors. I therefore led a fairly sheltered life.

I believe there is a TV program all about bullies today. You're so right about the suicide factor coming into play as well. Sad state of affairs for sure.

I put one in the hospital with a baseball bat to the shoulder blades and was never bothered again.

In the seventh grade, a bully put me in a headlock- I quickly bent forward and he ended up flying over my head and landing on his back- hard. I remember apologizing for him putting me in a situation to where I had to do that- freaked out because I actually did that... he crawled away to the nurse's office and no one said anything after that.

Then went to a gifted High School in Harlem, NYC. I was one of five white kids in a school of a thousand. We quickly became the bullies for the fear of losing control and being eaten up.

The word 'fear' is key here. Young teens can become so fearful for their lives that it eventually leads to psychiatric problems if not out right suicide.

    (*)(*)(*)(*) no!

I just whipped that ass the first time they tried me...

    No problems later...

I understand that it's not always that simple, but, it always worked for me...

    *shrug*

Never had this problem in school either. One reason was because everyone knew who my dad was...we'll just say he's not exactly the type of guy who lets his children get bullied. The other reasons being sometime in early high school I beat the toughest kid in our school during an armwrestling competition, then completely annihilated our best wrestler (he was nationially ranked) even though I didn't know a thing about wrestling. I usually hung out with the "nerd" crowd, but since I was the "star" athlete on the Cross Country and Track teams I really avoided some of the grief that I'm sure other kids got during their formative years. I grew up in a rural Kansas town with a population of 6,500 and there really, and quite surprisingly, wasn't much bullying going on that I can remember.

I attended a Jesuit high school, the bullies were the Jesuits...you act up, you get paddled, or you do push-ups.
Corporal punishment was not only tolerated, it was encouraged.

Bullying did go on...but eventually bullies were singled out and expelled.

It's difficult to totally eliminate it from any school...there are jerks in all walks of life. Eventually they anger the wrong person and get their ass kicked...

Personally I wasn't bullied any more than the average teen-ager...a few jerks try to start stuff, but nothing prolonged.

    On a less violent version . . .

I beat the toughest guy in school at armwrestling. Everyone witnessed it. I earned instant respect. No one messed with me again.

Difference between the bully and the bullied, is whether or not your parents let you put the penny in the power socket!

Moral of the story, let your kids learn on their own so they don't grow up weak spineless cowards!

I agree - I told my kids often "I better not ever find out you started a fight, but you have every right to finish on".....

Never had a problem w/my 2 daughters, but my son did finish quite a few, but mostly for the kids being picked up and couldn't fight back... the smaller, defenseless kids and animals.

I was proud of him - his heart was in the right place.....

Are you suggesting that pimps aren't bullies and spineless cowards when they beat their whores on a daily basis?

Are you suggesting I endorse pimping in the sense of making women have sex for money?

Were you born in the 30's by any chance?

I always minded my business, was strong and athletic, and have been training wrestling and taekwondo since around 13 and MMA since 17, so the bullies usually didn't mess with me.

I still train MMA. Not as seriously as I did from 17-20, though.

You know for some one who tells us about the effeminate and sissylike nature of liberals as often as he can, I am surprised you got bullied!! I was on the football team, and bigger and stronger than about 99% of the people in my school, and I was never bullied(even as a freshmen I was bigger and stronger than almost everyone, with the exception of some of the varsity athletes). Despite being the effeminate sissy leftist that I am. I also almost never bullied anyone either. Though I suppose that speaks to my effeminate sissy liberal nature as well. Being bigger and stronger, I should have realized it was in my nature to beat up weaker people and demand protection money from them!!

PS. I suppose this speaks to the studies which say that liberals tend to have had more friends in school, and were therefore less bullied and less likely to bully people..... I have no idea how accurate that study is, but it would explain this thread.

Well that makes two of us surprised, for if you were to reread or perhaps read the OP for the first time you'll find out that I didn't get bullied. So nothing has changed.....liberals have been and still are basically effeminate pantywaists.
