We could have a military budget as small as China's easily. All we need do is pay our soldiers less than burger flippers and use slave labor in our factories like the Chinese...Oh, and no unions. Why that billion dollar ship suddenly becomes a 100 million ship...why we can have ten for the same price.

As long as our top flight gear comes with a top flight price, we will have to spend more to get near as much.

You seem to be fooling yourself in believing that "bigger is better," rather than "more specific and advance presents the most advantages!"

Here is what Wikepedia says: (and please note that the number of ships was cut UNDER GW BUSH, not under President Obama!)

That is because we can build a new destroyer in half the time it takes to build a carrier...The military is hoping for a change of management.

I think the president hit his point right on the head, we have less then we did back then because what we have now is far more capable, and well, frankly...far more expensive. I'm pretty sure, America operates the most capable fleet of Aircraft carriers in existence, and well...we certainly have the most in active service. What the heck do you need 30 Aircraft carriers roaming around for soaking up money like 70,000 ton sponges when you're not in any conceivable risk of fighting a foe that calls for that sort of force? The same goes for subs, and any freaking military craft period. Also, IIRC we use a combat knife that can double as a bayonet so...eh.

Polls show another decisive Obama win. CBS has Obama up 53-23, a bigger margin than CBS had Romney winning the first debate with.

It's hard to see how Romney can bounce back from this catastrophe in the short span he has left.

you act as if there are no other countries or that there are no other people that would be willing to attack another country. We are not all alone in the world. and we are not the only ones that 'invade'.

Why are we sticking our noses into foreign entanglements - oil. If we didn't need the Middle Easts oil then we would care less what goes on there.

But on the debate Obama won on simple facts he is doing a decent job overall and he didn't bring up his strong covert actions on terrorists the last three years a battle we don't see but is being waged hard.

Obama won this debate and he won the last one as well. If anything he was even stronger in this debate than the last one. Obama is not the best president, he's done a mediocre job, and he's having trouble hitting his predictions, but we are much better off than we were four years ago, and I think voting Romney in would be a step in the wrong direction. Just because something isn't working as quickly as we'd like doesn't mean we should scrap it when they alternative looks so much like what brought us to the situation we faced in 2008 in the first place. I think we should take an objective look and stop blocking policy for political reasons and start doing what's best for the American people no matter which party the good ideas come from.

    Also Barack is not Israeli.

They told Romney to stay away from Libya after he got taken to task in the last debate because he just parroted Rush Limbaugh or some other right-wing nut. Turns out it was a lie and he was called on it. So he wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. Romney tried to attack Obama over Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood. That is a sticky position because he could come off supporting leaving Qadaffi in power. All in all Romney looked worn down, he was sweating like a pig and of course Obama was sitting there looking like a movie star as calm as can be.

As a life-long Independent I think its Obama by a small margin. He was convincing on most topics. Romney was thick on rhetoric but thin on specifics, which is one thing that has plagued his campaign this time around.

I don't think angry and petulent Obama won. That image doesn't sit well with people, unless they are drones or lemmings...

No Obama knows tons more than Romney and he was right. The military asks for certain equipment like ships and congress approves or disapproves the money. Now with the new submarines, the Virginia class, they are far more effective than the 688 Los Angeles class and the cancelled Seawolf class. They will not need as many because they are more expensive but have greater capability. Aircraft carriers are great in many situations but missiles and drones can take over a lot of jobs carriers and their planes do. Also they want to build smaller carriers in the future because the bigger ones are considered sitting ducks with today's missile and torpedo technology. Better to have seven ships with ten or so aircraft than risk one with hundreds of planes. But trying to explain this to someone like Mitt Romney that is inside the republican bubble, is truly a waste of time. They're stuck in a cold war mentality and want a 600 ship navy that we don't need.

How many more ships do we even need? Given that we have the most advanced navy in the world and can out class every single one of our enemies and near enemies. I'm no war strategist but it doesn't seem to me that we need more ships.

Yup. I think that was the key zinger of the night. I wish debates weren't decided by zingers but they seem to be important to social media.

You can build what ever you like .. but unless there are roads and infrastructure leading to your door, no one is going to show up at your door to buy anything.

If no one is buying any of your stuff .. you do not really have much of a business now do you.

So. . .tell us, how many foreign countries do you think could possibly invade the US?

Or do you think we should continue to play "savior of the world. . .as long as the world follow our ideas" for the next 8 years?

You do know it costs money, right? And you are concern about our deficit, right?

Mitt Willy looked Silly, agreeing with Obama foreign policy, then saying he would have done it better.. maybe sooner.. except... maybe not.. but then..

HEY he is MITT the TWIT.. so why should anyone expect anything more than what has already been demonstrated as a severe conservative syndrome now diagnosed as Romensia.

Exactly .. Lets bankrupt the country chasing a few extremists.

Bin Ladin has won. One act of terror and a decade later the America is still so terrified and cowering in fear that it is willing to bankrupt the future of its children and sacrifice its future power.

Bin Ladin has reduced America to a nation of scared little children.
