Madeline Albright On Rice’s Withdrawal: ‘It’s Appalling’

    'It's Appalling What Happened Here'

By Amanda Terkel | HuffPost | Posted: 12/14/2012 8:48 am EST
    Excerpts:

WASHINGTON – “Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said she found the treatment of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice by Republican senators "appalling," arguing that her consideration to be the next Secretary of State became a "political football" that had very little to do with her actual career and record as a public servant.

"I just think it's appalling what happened here. Appalling," she told The Huffington Post in an interview on Friday morning, noting she had known Rice since she was 4 years old.

"I think there are many aspects to this which ... are just completely fabricated and unfair, and just not the right way to treat someone who has dedicated her life to serving the United States."

On Thursday, Rice called President Barack Obama and formally took herself out of the running to be the next secretary of state. In a Washington Post op-ed, Rice said she decided to withdraw after "it became clear that my potential nomination would spark an enduring partisan battle."

"I think it was a political attack, in many ways, that had not much to do with her," said Albright on Friday, saying Rice had become a "political football."

With Rice no longer in the running, it potentially leaves a void of women in the top three Cabinet spots. While women's names have occasionally been floated - Michele Flournoy for Defense or Laura D'Andrea Tyson for Treasury - the people most often being discussed are men. Particularly mentioned are Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) for State, former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) for Defense and White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew for Treasury.

When asked about whether the president needs to seriously consider women for the spots, Albright replied, "The most important thing is for the president to have a qualified person for the role. That is the most important aspect. You want to have the best people, and it's obviously the president's choice."

She added that it's wonderful, however, when women are in the jobs because ‘there are very, very qualified women.’ "

    .....

Well, we kniw that the only person that will be acceptable to that rancid republican crowd, is a white male, and if Susan Rice really wanted the job, she should have fought for it.

The republicans did one of their hatchet jobs on Rice in an effort to thwart her being our next Sectrery of State. Susan Ruce said from the beginning that she was very happy being with the U.N. and would be happy to stay there, and that is possibly why she decided to remove her name from consideration.

Even after the complete republican drubbing in the recent elections, their nasty political attacks on Rice, their inconsequential dragging of their feet in the “fiscal cliff,” and their continuing to hold the American people hostage in the Bush Recession, the republicans cannot learn a single constructive move that will further endear themselves to the American people.

They have wasted 4 years doing negative propaganda and they are still on a one-track political suicide jaunt and don’t even know it.

I wonder if Albright still thinks it was worth it.

    .....

I wonder if any honest Washington worker thinks 'it was worth it.' The corruption is so deep and sustained by both parties that the people's work is entirely forgotten in the rush for pay-offs, gratification, and power.

Well the Reds (red state team) need to go after someone for paybacks for being beaten in the election, and poor Rice is their cannon fodder now.
