You forgot to mention bad guys, they need guns too - how would they commit crimes without guns?

There are about 30,000 gun deaths each year, and about 40,000 car deaths each year. In both categories most are accidental. Why should cars not also be available only to those who have a need for them such as policemen, commuters not near a train station, etc?

A motor vehicle to many people provides a freedom of movement that could not be had with public transport & at some point in the future may not even have a steering wheel as a destination will just be given to the car & the car takes care of the driving.

A gun is not required for a freedom of movement unless you are trying to stop a policeman from restricting your freedom of movement by shooting him dead.

Knife, club, Iron knuckles. But the gun alternatives do not invoke the same level of fear in bystanders who could tackle the criminal.

Another American imbecile confirmed that the legalization of handguns is a very ticklish question. I heard that some American congressmen and public figures want to declare the crusade against gun in US.

The cold steel is still the most common weapon used in domestic crimes in Russia.

Ok, stab the wife then run out onto the street & stab twenty more people to death & then stab yourself to death. Don't much like your chances of quickly killing the twenty people on the street. Sensible gun laws prevent some deaths but you will never know who they would have been.

Dmitry Vinogradov, a lawyer of a pharmaceutical company who killed six of his colleagues and is widely referred as ‘the Russian Breivik’, was declared sane by experts.

Now this mini-Breivik's a good chance to get the deprivation of freedom for life.

On Monday, the Moscow City Court found rampaging lawyer Dmitry Vinogradov guilty of six counts of murder and sentenced him to life in prison, RAPSI reported from the courtroom.
Vinogradov, 29, a Moscow lawyer, went into the office of the pharmaceutical company he worked for on the morning of November 7 and shot at his colleagues, killing three men and two women and wounding a fourth man, who later died in hospital.
Hours before the shooting, Vinogradov posted a message on a social network about his homicidal agenda and expressed hatred for the human race.
Vinogradov wrote that humankind had defied the laws of nature in its relentless quest for eternal life and this has been a slap in the face of natural selection. Thus, not only have we lost sight of genetic weakness, but we have even encouraged its perpetuation under the guises of "humanity" and "tolerance," he wrote.
Forensic experts confirmed his sanity during the investigation. Vinogradov was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, including murder, attempted murder, and supporting extremism.

A new bill which is expected to reach the Russian government by September 20 is designed to toughen the federal gun law, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.
The bill imposes tough restrictions on those who have alcohol addiction or problems with mental health, nervous system. Such people will undergo thorough examination if they apply for a gun ownership license.
The initiative was triggered by a series of incidents which took place in 2012 and 2013.
In November 2012 after a five-day drinking binge, Dmitry Vinogradov opened fire at his colleagues in Moscow while they were sitting at their desks. Five died during the attack, while a sixth died in hospital.
In response to this shocking event, State Duma lawmaker Irina Yarovaya submitted amendments to the legislation which increases liability for using weapons while intoxicated, as well as raising the age for buying weapons from 18 to 21.
The Interior Ministry announced as well that the regulations for selling weapons to citizens should be toughened.
Another accident took place last April in the city of Belgorod in southern Russia, where Sergei Pomazun ( He was jailed for life A psychiatrist's report on Pomazun after his arrest found no evidence of mental illness, though it described him as having a short temper and a high opinion of himself.)opened fire in a weapons store killing three people, and then shot another three people on the street outside. Five people died on the scene, including a 14-year-old girl. Another victim, a 16-year-old girl, died later in intensive care.
Last July President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that bans shooting firearms in public places.

A legalization of handguns in Russia is a nice idea which will be never fulfilled and passed through parliament because it is too dangerously for Putin. Guess what would be happen if everybody in Russia can fight for own rights.A folk with weapon is a free folk, no one dictator can enforce it his will. You know we have here the Second Amendment which allow us to posses privately weapons. Thanks our constitution it is not easy for some communist to enforce socialism in USA.

There is a gun lobby in Russia. And they are permanently buzzing around but the prospects of the legalization of handguns in Russia are too vague, at least it will not happen within the next few years I guess. There is a brisk demand for so-called traumatic guns in Russia.

You need a new President, Putin is a coward and can drive only with huge escorts, while he drives Moscow streets are empty. If Russia has a new democratic elected President he can allow the private ownership of guns. With Russian big criminal rate every Russian needs at least three guns and one AK-47.

    The bright future of Russia.

4th march 2024. Russian presidential election.

Putin is our candidate! We are voting for a sixth term!

Ostap, unfortunately, sometimes the great number of guns can’t improve the criminal rate and sometimes American gun legislation looks like a mixed blessing >

    That would make things worse.
Criminals will also carry weapons.. I really doubt people with guns will scare true criminals.
Some russians are probably rolling in the aisles right tnow

In any case I prefer the free possession of guns for self-defense.Own gun can defend you more quickly as cops.
