I am glad PF has wised up and is finally accepting advertising. Trying to support a website on charitable contributions is just a bad business model.

And there was never a need to go begging. PF is at the top of the Google search if you type the search term "political forum." We get 4,000 new posts per day. There is no reason why a site with so much exposure and traffic should beg for money.

And I never saw the need to send in money. I contribute many hours of free content to this forum per week, enhancing its value. If anyone should be sending money, PF should be sending money to me.

I agree, I enjoy coming here and sharing ideas and even clashing over ideas with others. If dealing with some reasonably innocuous advertising is the cost of ensuring that this web site stays active and vibrant, then I am all for it.

I started a poll a while back, out of curiosity, asking the forum if they'd be okay with a PF funded by ads. A lot of good points were made, questions asked, and concerns expressed. One particular poster took the poll question as an opportunity to not only question my 'business knowledge', but also to go on a rant about what type of content is allowed here at PF, and a host of other things (yeah, I'm laughing at you now, and you know who you are  ). But, results clearly showed that most would be fine with ad revenue funding PF. It seemed like a logical step, and perhaps necessary to fund something as large as this forum.

I second the OP's sentiment. I'm glad the owner decided to accept commercial advertising. So far, the ads are pretty unassuming, and not annoying at all.

It feels a bit of a disingenuous move to me. For those of us who contribute, we do so so we don't have to deal with ads. That was what we paid for. Without so much as a mention, it feels as though that contract was broken. I understand the costs involved and sustainability requirements... and had there been a notice or anything, it would feel a lot less shady.

As for the OP... get over yourself. You do not add value here, your posts are not art. I remember you being outraged that some of your "work" was lost in the db transition, and felt they "owed" you something for your brilliant insight.

Its a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing forum. You are not being "published" nor taken seriously.

Everything on this website is legally "published" as soon as its posted.

And as far as being taken seriously, my guess is I have more "Likes/Dislikes" and Reputation points than you.

Not everyone here likes what I have to say, but I do get noticed by a lot of people.

And that means I'm adding value which is worth something in dollars and cents.

Yes, you are a legend in your own mind.
I wouldn't be so sure about the likes/dislikes and reputation points. I get them from both sides. A side effect of non-partisan intellectual honesty.

In the discussion I referred to earlier, someone mentioned that another forum they visit removed ads for those who donated. Someone else talked about forums that showed ads only to those who were viewing while not logged in. Maybe the owner will consider such things in the future.

Several people also mentioned ad blocking software.

I disagree. Advertisement is the free enterprise system at work.

If you don't like advertising, go to North Korea. I'm sure you can find some remote village there where there's no advertising.

With 4000 new posts every day, PF should be raking in big cash.

And those of us who keep PF interesting should be paid for our hard work and creativity.

I really don't care one way or the other except for the fact that almost every time I use my phone to access this site and try to go to the next page it starts to automatically take me to Amazon instead. It takes 3 or 4 tries to get to where I want to go.

Have you confused me for someone else?

The owner could do so if he or she wishes too, but if it got to the point that people were annoyed by the presence of excessive/intrusive ads, it would defeat the purpose.

If PF had a news or op/ed branch, maybe. But as it stands, this is just a voluntary discussion board, it's a labor of love.

I have donated so that I wouldn't be mistaken for a free loading Liberal. But that's just me. No, actually, this site has high value and I should give more often. But to your main point, I looked this up:

The only downside I can think of is that you'll get flooded with ads you might not necessarily like. This happened with alot of networks which blew up and all of a sudden got popular.

Fortunately for you, your preferences are being recorded through data collection software your browser uses, but don't worry about what happens to that information after it is collected as the corporate world has proven time and again how trust worthy they are!

Just because corporations flood me with ads they think I would like doesn't mean I wanna see them.

I doubt this place would ever be THAT popular.

It's annoying for me because the adds have a huge detection box on my phone (like the entire right 3/4 of the screen), but that said this forum never really worked right on my droids browser. I don't mind it I guess, though it was a surprise. Still better to have ads than no site!

So they are not taking money anymore, right?

These ads, which are many and massive, are instead of?

Neither do I. I'm assuming adblock stops them.
