A group of journalists and activists against corporate media in Indianapolis, of which I am a member, are attempting to start a news network headquarted in Indianapolis. We would call this network News For the People, or NFP Network. They want this network to be completely funded by viewer donations and charity, with no financial connections to any political party, corporation, or special interest. The only exception to this would be that we would be willing to advertise for small businesses to help them become better known. We would start out as a local news station, only reporting on stories from Indianpolis, and the state of Indiana, but the goal would be to expand to other states, with local and state news from many different states, and eventually establishing a national media network, like MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, but without their blatant corporatism and political bias.
Are you planning on using public access or a website and if you are is it available to view? Also what would you like to discuss about it?
It would be on a website, or maybe youtube at first, but when we get the money we would be actually starting a media company in the form of a non-profit coporation and actually getting a tv spot. Mainly I want to know how many people would be willing to pay for this type of network. We won't be able to start if we don't get enough money from donations. We could always try for some government grants, but we would prefer to use private donations from viewers instead of using government money. Relying too heavily on the government is just as bad as relying on corporations and special interests.
I would just stick with online or radio that seems to be the most successful path. About how many people is "we" and what level is their expertise? Personally I really like The Real News they're an independent website and I think they produce quality programs. If you're serious about this I suggest your group contact them and seeing if they offer any advice because I'm no expert in the matter.
Sounds good. I get tired of having to look to sources outside the country to get any "real" news. Good luck to you.
Ahhh, the Free Speech TV model. Good luck, it became a liberal bastion that thinks it is still unbiased.
Don't get me wrong, still better then the propaganda on the MSM, but it is none the less very biased, just not manipulative.
So basically it would have zero commentary or opinion? Your going to have a lot of dead air time if you only report facts. You can usually run through a cities important happenings in about 5 minutes every day. The second one person gives an opinion or comments on something your unbiased claim goes out the window.
