asset forfeiture and the Fifth Amendment

    Asset forfeiture laws allow the police to take property t hat they suspect might have been, or might be used to commit crimes.

    They don't have to indict the owner, let alone convict anyone, and yet, they can take personal property with no due process of law.

    These laws have been on the books for years, and are regularly abused.

    How is it that a freedom loving people like Americans allow this blatant violation of Fifth Amendment rights to continue? Where is the counter part of the NRA that supports the other ten amendments in the Bill of Rights?

    Well your right, it is based on Constitutional law and needs to be changed.

    I'd assume that since most people will never be affected by it that its not a top priority. The government could abuse that power but they aren't, at least on a large scale, so little attention is paid to it.
