When I hear the word 'gay' I immediately think of...

Uh, the B's can already marry someone of the opposite sex. Or is there a checkbox on a marriage license which says "Are you bi?" that's used to deny marriage licenses to bisexuals who want to marry someone of the opposite sex?

For the T's, I've not heard that they can't marry, only that the State isn't sure which sex they are and which sex they are allowed to marry. Get rid of the restrictions on the L's and G's and I'm confident the B's and T's will be able to marry someone of either sex just fine.

I just get a bit pissed off that a perfectly good word has been abducted by homosexuals, leaving an irritating gap.

I am a recreational hockey player. I've played on several teams, in local beer leagues, on which I had homosexual teammates. I always found out about the sexual orientation of these individuals in indirect ways, such as other players waiting to shower after a game until certain other individuals were finished. Sometimes, it would be while celebrating at a bar after a game. Personally, I never had a clue to begin with. I think that being homosexual in a hyper-masculine environment like that must be difficult.

I agree with you. This is why I voted "something else," because when I hear or see gay people, what comes to my mind is how much they must love each other to have the courage to face all the negativity and stigma impose on them by society, and the prejudice and nastiness of the homophobes, or just the stupidity of narrow minded or misguided, hyper religious people.

I see most gay people as courageous enough to be themselves, even if so many in the world (sometimes, even in their own family) tries so hard to intimidate them into hiding or denying their true sexuality.

 

I put HIV, anal sex and depression/suicides. It's kind of hard not to think of HIV since it's mainly a problem for the gay community and the bisexual community, I guess anal sex is a bit prejudiced since not all gay people necessarily enjoy that, but I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking depression/suicides since those problems certainly affect the gay community more because of discrimination in society.

I don't think anyone should be blamed for what pops into their head, we can't control that. What matters is how we reflect intellectually on what popped into our head and how we actually decide to behave towards gay people in the real world.
