Most of the following quotes come from leftist professors et al as a result of and shortly after the 9/11 attacks of our twin towers in N.Y.C.

On campus, anyone who dares to love America is criticized as a falg-waver: a patriotic racist buffoon who believes in American imperialism. Patriotism is seen as a hallmark of stupidity.

The University of California at Berkeley wanted to hold their one-year anniversary memorial for the September 11 attacks without God, flags, or patriotism. They were going to omit the "Star-Spangled Banner," "God Bless America," and red, white, and blue ribbons, in order not to offend foreign students. The president of the Berkeley Graduate Assembly and an admitted hater of the American flag and the US government, Jessica Quindel, evaluated the planned ceremony: "We are trying to stay away from supporting Bush.S aggression towards other countries. It seems hostile.

Professor Frank Lentricchia and Stanley Hauerwas of Duke University are composing an essay collection disparaging patriotism as simplistic, "We've had wall-to-wall, unreflective patriotism in this country--we're trying to crack through it," proudly states Lentricchia.

"[T]he United States claims it has reasons [for the War on Terror]," states America-hating Professor Noam Chomsky. "And the Nazis jhad reasons for gassing the Jews." Many professors agree--the modern-day United States and President George Bush are identical to World War II Germany and Hitler. So we deserved what we got on September 11. And the men and women vaporized in airplanes, or pulverized into the ground after jumping from flaming skyscrapers, or plummeting thousands of feet into an empty field in Pennsylvania got what was coming to them.

"The ultimate responsibility [for the attacks] lies with the rulers of this country, the capitalist ruling class of this country," says Professor Walter Daum of City College of New York. If we would only capitulate to the desires of the Arab street, they would love us. Let Israel be overrun by its Arab enemies. Tell India to let Pakistanis walk into New Delhi. Back the Chechens against the Russians. Then they won't ever attack us, they say.

    'Brainwashed' ....Ben Shapiro

ps: I must ask the leftists here if they agree with the overall sentiment of their brethren concerning their blaming American Capitalists/Conservatives for the deaths of 3000 people on 9/11. Do you also find it hard to salute the American flag, put your hand over your heart in honor of our dead military warriors, to sing our National Anthem and or to show pride in America if and when you're visiting a foreign country? I have some faith in a few lefties that they may become patriotic in future (especially if they are forced into protecting themselves and family from a foreign enemy). One thing is sure, you'll never get commies and anti-Americans like George Soros, Michael Moore or a Noam Chomsky to salute Old Glory.

I don't see Libhater's posts, but states and state boundaries are historical accidents, and the American right does seem to be obsessively treacherous, doesn't it?

Yes, they are not showing a problem with patriotism, it is nationalism that is the concern

None of this is very convincing evidence, and a lot of it anecdotal.

At any rate, I see no shame or great importance in hating one's country, nor in hating patriotism. It seems to me to be much more indicative of a more unbiased and free-thinking worldview than actually believing in a set of arbitrary ideals that one had no part in creating, in a system formed of millions of opposing interests and ideas. Liberals, for instance, are most certainly "American" just as liberals have always been a part of America. They just aren't a group that you like. So why would you defend patriotism as patriotism, unless you appreciate a set of ideals supported by patriotism, in which case why don't you defend those ideals rather than vague "patriotism"?
Patriotism is a rigged word for a rigged concept designed to harm an arbitrary sense of country and nation. It's a useless word for a free man or a free thinker.

People who are considerate of other peoples feelings are the scum of the earth and should be locked up with the rapists and child abusers. Good of you to bring this to our attention.

Not very convincing? A lot of these professors are accusing American Capitalism and our war missions as being responsible for the 9/11 attack. Some (many) said the Americans who died as a result of the attack deserved to die. And you think that isn't enough convicing that these leftists are not patriotic? The quotes from those professors et al are anything but anecdotal; their quotes come from having been taught that America has been an imperialistic nation who does nothing but warrant the ire of any and all foreign nations.

Thanks for answering my question as to whether you agree with the leftists in the OP who would not readily be seen saluting the America Flag or honoring the military personnel who gave their lives so you could breathe GOD's fresh air. Let me get this straight....you're saying that the patriots among us have this concept in mind and or in action which is to harm our country or nation? Okay, I got your message now, to you, patriots are harmful to their nation, but those who badger their nation with aggressive vitriol and utter disregard for their homeland (as seen with the OP quotes) should be seen as nothing more than free thinkers.

I don't really even know what Patriotism means to everyone. If it is just love of country then it is fair to ask what it is you specifically love, why that's good and why America is all that special in that regard.

Although I am not a "leftist", I can point out the strawman question. I have never actually heard anyone blame American "capitalists/conservatives" (as if they are even the same thing) for 9/11. I have heard people quite rightly claim that American foreign policy played a role in setting the table for 9/11. Actions have reactions. It did not happen at random. But that is not the same as blaming capitalists.

When would I really do any of the first three? I don't salute flags when walking past them. But I don't see anyone else doing so either. I don't stop my day to put my hand over my heart to honor anyone. But I don't see anyone else doing so either. I hear the National Anthem when I attend sports, but I don't sing. Most people don't. As for the last, I travel more than anyone I know and I have no idea what you mean. What is it specifically that you want me to do when I am in Bangkok eating Pad Thai from a food stall surrounded by people who don't speak a word of English and care nothing whatsoever about America?

This sounds like it should be parody. The frightening thing is that you actually believe in all this saluting and genuflecting before Holy America! 'My country right or wrong', right Lib? (you don't mind if I call you Lib-Libhater is so formal). Even when your country is serially, demonstrably wrong in so many ways? See, that's what I call brainwashing; 'patriotism' is what those who need your allegiance call it.

Jingoism and empty gestures don't make you a patriot any more than hating gays and loving money make you a "Christian."

Perhaps I should have titled this post "Why do Leftists hate America" so as to get people like you to see and hear the abject anti American hatred that is spewing out from these professors, from their students and from other anti war and anti Wall Street types. When and if you hear or read about these leftists badgering America....think back to my concern over their obvious hatred for America. I noticed that no lefty response here was willing to agree with the people in the OP. So tell me snakeoil, do agree with the many marxist professors that America deserved to be bombed on 9/11? Please don't dodge this very simple question.

If you stick your hand in a hornets' nest and they sting you, you can either blame yourself or blame the hornets. As for me, I'd blame you.

There aren't that many quotes, nor is there a reason to believe that this is necessarily the belief of all, or even a large portion of liberals. Of course some are going to think something stupid like this just as some far rightists will believe that god kills gays in the military. Anyway, I don't see how claiming that American war missions attributed to 9/11 is at all unpatriotic, since it's a statement of fact, not of prescription. Just because you believe that this occurred doesn't mean that you don't love you're country. There's also the obvious question of why foreign intervention and military missions are patriotic when the founding fathers appear to have supported a smaller militia that engaged in homeland defense than a large "global force for good".

It's logically defunct to claim that something is wrong because you don't like the conclusion, or in this case that because America's military actions contributed to 9/11. Severe exposure to the sun can cause cancer. This is a statement of fact, one a "sunist" cannot logically deny just because he likes the sun, nor does this logically imply that I hate the sun, or that I am incorrect in saying that the sun can cause cancer.

I refuse to salute the American flag, or any flag for that matter, and I don't honor American personnel anymore than I salute men of any other nation. Why should I salute American troops and more than I do English troops when I think that many of the military escapades they died in were against my values. I find no honor in surrendering one's will over to a military bureaucracy regardless of the nation, I find it corrosive to one's own will and soul, particularly when one is handing ones' self over to something as irresponsible and dangerous as the American government.

The troops who died in combat over the years had a lot of reasons for doing so, and any report from inside the military itself remove any rosy picture of every military man being a noble soul who is fighting for the wellbeing of others

... This is not what I meant, nor do I believe it to be derivable from what I said. I don't believe that a nation or country is actually valuable in most cases. Sometimes patriots do harm to their country, sometimes they help their country, just like everyone else who both is and is not "a patriot". Once again, I think these words are rather useless and without substance. There are plenty of liberal patriots, but you would never classify them as patriots because their definition of the highly fuzzy concept of patriotism isn't the same as your own. Surrendering yourself because of a chance of geography (nationalism) is nonsense.

Yeah, I tried to talk 'em out of giving up their lives but they insisted. And, when you get right down to it, they gave up their lives so capitalists could befoul GOD's fresh air.

As with all of our universities, they do have a small minority of foreign students attending. Think of Bill Clinton as having been a foreign student when he attended one over in England in 1969 where he wrote the letter to his recruiting officer saying he refused to be drafted into the Army while the Vietnam War was going on. Yeah, we could very well place Bubba Clinton to join in with these anti American nitwits at our own universities.

James Baldwin, in Notes of a Native Son, summed it up perfectly.

I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.

America is not without faults. We are far from perfect. For the most part, America works and works well. He have survived intact from a few colonists up to the leader of the free world for the simple reason that we are generally in the right and believe in freedom.

I don't equate patriotism with thinking that America is perfect. I think only fools will not criticize America. I think that every good American should find our faults, work to improve them, and learn from our mistakes.

Of course I don't agree that America should have been bombed; what a stupid premise. Was an attack on the cards? Absolutely; if you're dumb enough to grab a tiger by the tail, you better be prepared to eventually have to deal with its teeth...

Again, I should have titled this post "Why do Liberals Hate America" instead of singling out only one of their actions that highlight their extreme hate. So as a bonus to you I have left you with a piece that highlights the many reasons, actions and words of prominent liberals who have decided not to hide their hate any longer. Enjoy your brethren.

What a load of ignorant twaddle.
McCain said it best in 2008 on the campaign trail when asked about the so-called patriotism of the idiots that thronged to hear Palin prattle on about American values.
He said, I don't think that you can be a patriot if you hate half of your fellow countrymen.
A little earlier, he had written a similar response about what patriotism is for Time magazine:

    http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1818217-1,00.html

I have yet to see any right-wing extremist meet any of the criteria for patriotism.
All they do is wallow in ostentatious displays of superficial banalities while their hearts are full of hate toward their fellow countrymen.

    Well observed. Bravo.

The only "extreme hate" I see here is from you. It must be terribly stressful being so angry all the time, Libhater.
