I'm skeptical that "pro-lifers" wouldn't oppose an abortion of an ectopic pregnancy. Notice the knee-jerk reactions.

To her personally, and anyone else in a similar position, obviously it's relevant. To the key points of her post which I was responding to, it wasn't. She said as much herself.

To #3. Yes, there are signs that your body gives you during times of non-fertility and fertility. Check your mucus.

So her experience with abortion in life is relevant...but her post DISCUSSING her experience with abortion in her life is NOT relevant.

    Ah....ha.

If you would like I can go into more details about what happened to me or we can just leave it at you folks assuming I am a troll if you want.

They just think you're trolling because you don't have five heads and spittle running down your face like they assume mother's who would choose abortion are. You don't fit the profile. You're supposed to be someone who doesn't have to worry about money, goes to no less than five bars and dance clubs in a four hour period where you get blacked out drunk and bring home multiple sex partners.....every night, while spending the days on the beach working on your tan and figure with no responsibilities in the world to speak of.

    You're a real person.

And they just don't know how to deal with that.

...to the key points of her post which I was responding to.

I had no comment to make about her ectopic pregnancy. It happened, she received good medical advice and had a termination. There was nothing else to say (and nothing she asked) regarding that. She did ask about her friend's response to her statement that she would have proceeded with an abortion regardless, based on the reasoning she gave. I did have a comment to make on those points so I did.

I'm really not clear what you're expecting that I should have done differently?

Wasn't the fact the pregnancy was ectopic a "key point of her post"????

    Oops? Grasping for straws?

The ectopic part was added for drama. Don't be so naive.

Ah well that is quite the picture you paint and no I am definitely not like that.

I was trying to keep the first post on here short. But I can go into details. I didn't lose my entire fallopian tube -the right one is where the ectopic growth was- from the tubal pregnancy, thankfully but it was damaged from the size of the baby. I needed a laparotomy since my length of pregnancy and the size of the baby deemed the need for emergency surgery. It is not totally unusual for some women to enter their 10th week of tubal pregnancy before their fallopian bursts for all you skeptics out there. I was 8 and a half weeks so I was getting dangerously close to that point. Remember, not all embryos grow at the exact same rate either! And not all babies are born the same size!

I told my ex about what was going on and he was kind enough to be with me every step of the way. Having someone I could count on like that before and after surgery really helped a lot. The poor guy kept apologizing for it too like it was his fault but you know, we both chose to have sex and its not like he wanted me to need surgery.

I discussed options with my surgeon and gave him my medical and mental health history. I couldn't have a laparoscopy -which is a small incision rather than a big one- for the type of procedure I opted for sadly. I did inform my surgeon that I had no children and expressed my concerns for future fertility. He suggested a salpingectomy which would save most of the healthy tube and wouldn't leave me with only one fallopian and a decreased chance of future fertility. I ended up opting for that procedure. For those of you who don't know a salpingectomy is when the surgeon removes the ectopic growth along with the damaged part of the fallopian tube and then reconnects the healthy part. So as it currently stands both of my tubes are intact and connected, but future fertility is still questionable and chances of another ectopic pregnancy are possible, I'll manage that hurdle in life whenever it comes tho.

Recovery was hard I was very emotional after the fact. I think i was still worried about my ability to have kids later on and was just upset at the whole situation and with the world and the crappy hands that have been dealt to me my whole life. But as always I pushed through it. I talked through a lot of it with my friends -avoided most of my family like the plague though!- and my ex was my shoulder to cry on.

That's the longer version of it all without getting too much into deep personal details. Hope that helps paint a better picture.

The aftermath though is what really gets me, after going through it all and meeting so many different people with such strong views on abortion as a whole. Honestly if any woman went through half of what i went through in ending a pregnancy I'd still feel bad for her. And I mean all those women who choose it and get nothing but bs thrown their way for making those tough life choices. I feel for them because i was in the same boat not too long ago, my situation just turned out to have more extreme circumstances than most.

    1. You guys elected a guy dumber than Dubya as his replacement....and that's saying something. :)

    2. So NO women have abortions due to ectopic pregnancy? Or can we be dubious of everything posted here......like you. No reason to accept you're a woman....or just a "civilian" poster....

you could just be some paid stooge of the RNC, couldn't you???

What you're doing is appealing to the emotions. You're trying to justify all elective abortions simply by a few isolated instances, which only very rarely even happens.

And late-term abortions are rare....yet you are ALWAYS using late-term abortions as your appeal to emotions in your discusssions of abortions.....not conception or even first trimester.

BTW, Peachy, the best "insurance" against having your abortion rights taken away from you by the Right?

    Become rich.

NOTHING they ever propose effects wealthy women....ever. Apparently they don't care about rich "babies".

An admission...you...and you alone are culpable for your predicament.

Abortion was initiated as a fail safe...regardless of it's medical necessity,
another admission...you would have one anyway.

Your casual attitude towards abortion is indicative of why your friend probably wants nothing to do with you anymore.
No remorse, and no recognition of a wrong.

Young lady, to those of us who believe in the viability of the unborn as a human being..yes it is wrong.

You chose to have relations with your ex...you chose not to use any form of protection....I'm assuming you've been taught the birds and the bees and that relations can lead to pregnancy...yet you ignored common sense, and let your emotions control you. Abortion was a fix to a problem you caused to yourself...the unborn in your womb is not to blame.

I understand, it's no big deal to you, but not to those of us who value human life, even on that tiny level of the fetus.

So yes, the issue is big enough to ruin friendships I'm sure. Your friend probably doesn't hate you but she sees in you a cavalier attitude towards sex and abortion.

    "no big deal"

It IS a BIG deal to us.

Notice how you're being attacked for having an abortion that literally saved your life.....from people who CLAIM they would support women having the right to an abortion if it was to save her life???

And remember, your ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed by a doctor....and these same people don't want doctors to determine if an abortion is necessary because "Those evil, greedy doctors will LIE and give the women abortions even if their lives aren't threatened!".

Really makes one question the honesty of the "pro-lifers", doesn't it???

It's not wrong unless you're the one being aborted. Then its the worst possible thing your mother could do to you.

I didn't think so. You're entitled to your own opinion. You've still not established what you expected me to do differently in my initial reply.

Is infanticide really that wrong? And if yes, does the infant have more of a right to life an hour after birth than it did an hour before?

Something you'll never even be remotely aware of because you're not even physiologically capable of awareness. You won't be "observing" the abortion thinking what a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) your mother is, because there is no "you" without consciousness and higher brain activity. If you want to believe in souls or something supernatural like that(not saying you do specifically because I have no idea what your religious beliefs are, just using the word "you" in general terms here), that's fine, but people who don't believe in that stuff shouldn't be required to live by the rules you do either. Lets stick with facts. Everything that makes a person a person resides solely in human consciousness and psyche. Without that, you are no different than the millions of others forms of life that people have absolutely no qualms about killing.

    1. Well viability is one thing, sir, and I am positive that most women don't choose abortions at or past viability.

    2. I never blamed the baby for what happened, but yes I was seeking a fix for what happened considering my circumstances in life. I weighed a lot of things at the time, relationship -there was none-, finances -i barely make it paycheck to paycheck-, i considered adoption too but didn't know if i really had it in me to go through that entirely. I definitely thought about a lot of things when considering whether to have the baby or not. The stress of it all weighed on me immensely. Abortion seemed like the best answer at the time, still does considering how it all ended up.

As for the sex part, well I have had sex regularly with the few men I have dated but there have been plenty of times in between relationships that there was none at all and i suppose fate finally caught up to me in the end and bit me for not being more careful and that's certainly my own fault.

    3. It only seems to have ruined one friendship thus far though. The vast majority of my friends still stand with me and support me.

I guess I really am just trying to understand her view and why she feels the way she does about me now. If it is that big of a deal then wow, I will try to talk to her again and see what she really thinks but she hasn't responded to any of my texts or calls.

I mean come on, you wouldn't really turn away from someone who needed you for comfort would you? That seems so coldhearted even if they made a choice you dislike. That's what it feels like she did with me. I confided in her with all my emotions and tears and she left me in the cold. No explanation, no nothing. It's just frustrating because she and I were such close friends and I do miss her.

    1. Also isn't abortion illegal past viability?

Yes it's wrong, and yes, once born, a child is protected by the law. That's why Kermit Gosnell deserved to go to prison. That's why you won't find many, if any, pro-choicers who think there wasn't anything wrong with his conduct.
