CNN is currently broadcasting the court proceedings against Arial Castro. The deal is that he will receive life in prison, plus 1000 years, with no possibility of parole and will not be executed.

While I know that many believe that "revenge" is a part of our criminal justice system and believe that Castro should be executed this is the best possible resolution to his heinous actions in kidnapping, raping, and holding the three young women as sex slaves for ten years. Going to trial where these three young women would have been forced to relive their years of torture and abuse would have been the alternative and for the sake of the victims this is the best possible resolution to this case.

Sounds like a sufficient punishment to me. he imprisoned those girls, he remains imprisoned for the rest of his life.

I don't think it is 'sufficient' punishment- but I think it is the best punishment that can be metted out in consideration of the victims.

There is a moment when one realises that certain persons are beyond redemption. These persons should, without a doubt, be put down with the same temperment as a rabid dog gone amok in the neighborhood. Not one moments sleep should be lost for service done to the law-abiding peoples. Not a single moments lost sleep. This is not a duty one should take lightly but it as necessary as breathing. The culling of the herd that is....

Better for the victims that they accept the offer made to Castro, rather than having to testify in a public trial with all of America watching and one million and one opinions flouted everywhere.

It will be difficult enough for them to adjust to a new life and this is the best way to ensure the media attention moves elsewhere.

I want him to rot in jail. Either way he'll most likely die by his own hand or by the hand of another prisoner.

Perhaps it's true that he will be murdered by his fellow inmates but we must remember that our government has an obligation to protect the Rights of ALL Persons including the Right to Life of a person that's incarcerated even for the most heinous of criminal acts (and Castro certainly qualifies as committing the most heinous of acts).

I certainly believe this is the best possible outcome and I also oppose the death penalty which is not about protecting the American People from the heinous actions of a person but is instead nothing but revenge for those actions.

As a Person we don't have a Right of Revenge and lacking that Right it is illogical for us to delegate that authority to our government. The government has no "power" other than those "powers" we have that we can delegate through the "social contract" that establishes our government. The death penalty goes beyond the authority the People have in creating a government based upon the social contract.

The death penalty itself authorizes our government to murder innocent people and it's been known to do that far more often than many seem willing to accept.

A beast like him should never exist,
but killing him would shorten the punishment,
let him suffer until the day comes that he would naturally die.

I wouldn't lose sleep over killing a killer, but I would lose sleep over killing someone innocent.

Which does occasionally happen with the death penalty.

So even if I don't mind killers being killed, with the death penalty in place, there will still be the losing of sleep all the same.

Getting a life sentence in prison is not necessarily suffering. Tens of thousands of prisoners are serving life sentences for all sorts of lesser crimes than what Castro did. If anything, he received a lesser sentence than they did.

You are actually right.. There is I guess a punishment "cieling" where everyone who reaches it is punished the same... So a guy who killed somebody gets the same punishment as a guy who rapes and kills a thousand nuns.

With the death-penalty, this is still the case, just the ceiling is moved a bit... Someone executed for mudering gets the same punishment as someone executed for raping and murdering ten thousand babies.

We can't get around this predicament, unless we amended the Constitution to get rid of that "cruel and unusual punishment" clause.

    With what he did,
and with those guys inside the prison who are in distaste,
they could accommodate him with glee.
He is so smart enough to circumvent the law by the plea deal
but not with those thugs inside the prison, he will not be killed but I think make his daily life more miserable.

America has become too "pussified". Hang him and be done with it. Rope and a pine box cost maybe $100 total. That guy will sap my tax bucks for 50 years. Cable television, three squares a day, climate controlled room, time to play basketball and hit the gym, free medical and dental care. All with my tax dollars. I say let him swing.

All the capital punishment advocates crack me up, it just goes to show that they really have no clue.

This guy would of had a clean, easy and quick death if executed. Trust me there are worse things in life than dying.

I would not think even the latino gangs in any prison would protect this ar$#hole so he is either in prtective custody or he is going to be looking over his shoulder for all his days in prison.

His notoriety makes him an ideal target for some skinhead nazi loving aryan brother to make a name for himself. Good night brotherArial. I would of asked for the death penalty.

There are 7 billion people on the planet. A few are going to be wrong'uns of the worst kind. The argument that innocent people go to death row was before the advancement of DNA and all that forensic stuff seen on TeeVee and such. A rabid dog is put down without a moments thought so should a wrongly wired human. If, for instance in the case of Dahmer, pieces parts are found on or around the accused then I think the idea they might be innocent can be forgotten and the death penalty applied.

It isn't an issue of there being worse things than dying as it is an issue of more or less sorting out the beyond redemptive. It isn't even a question of it being humane or not. I, for one, do not wish to pay for their upkeep. I am not paying for them to watch Jolie and De Niro and Cowell and who knows who else on TeeVee and spend the afternoon gaming and lift weights and introduce themselves to their socks and so on and so forth. It isn't pleasant or something to celebrate but simply a matter of removing the weeds. Keeping people alive so they can be perpetually punished behind bars seems the more ridiculous thing to do quite frankly.

Well no trial is perfect even with DNA.. Certain enough to put someone in jail for life, leaving the opportunity for further revelations that could theoretically clear them. If you want to claim that we have perfected our judicial system I would disagree. There are many things that can mess up a verdict and DNA isn't even always a factor in a trial.

But it's just my opinion. I don't lose sleep over killers doing life in jail while they still draw breath. I might lose sleep over the possibility of an innocent being executed. It's just what I think for my own self, that's all. I lose the MOST sleep over the innocents who don't even get a trial at all doing life behind bars while getting tortured in Obama's gulag. That problem trumps any DP issues.
