They actually did give up their best and brightest because the majority of the slaves given up by the Africans were not Africans at all, they were Israelites. and the Slavetraders had to give a lot of wares and gold and other jewels to get them too...and without them, the Slave traders would've died at sea during the crossing of the Middle Passage.
