McCain Warns of ‘Catastrophic’ Consequences of Defying Obama

    AP/The Huffington Post | 09/03/2013 11:44 am EDT
    Excerpts:

“Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) warned that a Congressional vote against military action in Syria would be "catastrophic."

McCain sounded the warning after he and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) met with President Barack Obama on Monday. McCain made similar claims on Sunday, before his meeting with the president.

Graham said he feels there is a "solid plan" from the Obama administration to "upgrade the opposition" in Syria. McCain agreed but still cited "concerns."

"We still have significant concerns but we believe there is in formulation a strategy to upgrade the opposition," McCain said.

After Obama announced he was in favor of action "limited in duration and scope" in Syria, McCain and Graham said that would "send the wrong signal."

"We cannot in good conscience support isolated military strikes in Syria that are not part of an overall strategy that can change the momentum on the battlefield, achieve the President's stated goal of Assad's removal from power, and bring an end to this conflict, which is a growing threat to our national security interests," the senators said in a statement on Saturday.

Obama announced Saturday he would "seek authorization for the use of force from the American people's representatives in Congress" before taking action in Syria.”

    ......

IMO: While McCain and Graham play ‘good cop’ and ‘bad cop,’ it appears that President Obama is being drawn into a major war by the two war-mongers. Calling the two republican Hawks to the White House was the worst idea Obama has had in a long time.

And President Obama has shown a lack of judgment presuming that the Brits would do the Iraq thingy one more time. They at least learned from their mistakes.

Maybe the White House, Pentagon, and Congress want a war. but the American people are smarter today than they were in 2002-2008.

We will not send our sons and daughters to a war that will quickly turn into another middle-east holocaust where the enemy is an unidentifiable, ignorant people that don’t have any concept of wanting a decent life for their families, who are the ultimate victims.

Watch for the republican warhawks refuse to ok a ‘strike’ but will hold out for a full war and bring even more infamy down on their heads as America heads for another calamity like Iraq and Afghanistan from which we are still trying to recover.

Arming Al Qaeda is never in our interests, I don't care what loser politician tries to say otherwise, be it Obama or McCain...

Pretending that any escalation can be tied to Republicans when its Obama bringing it forth is laughable...

Sorry Agent, this one is Obama's. I know how much you and HuffPo would love to have McCain and Graham to blame for this in order to hold Obama blameless, but he's the one who drew the line in the sand. He's the one who shot his mouth off, and it was his bluff that got called.

Is John McCain already a convert and joined AL-Qaieda, or probably he is going a little bit crazy. Better a crazy dictator like Assad as a new fortress of Radical Islam in Syria.BTW McCaim can himself take a gun and fight in Syria, on his own expenses.

Apparently you are just realizing what a pathetic empty suit Obama really is. It takes him two full days to make a decision at a drive up window

Simply putting himself in a position to blame others. No matter your political persuasion, you must know Obama is a poor Commander-In-Chief.

Obama is lying now. He never threatened Syria with a red line. Now, the Obama supporters have to slurp up another 'Big Lie" from our 21st century Goebbels.

Remember this Big Lie, liberals. He staged a cover-up about Benghazi with a Big Lie and it isn't over.

Yeah remember I also predicted (correctly) he would try to bomb syria to take attention away from these scandals. So the guy is such a poor president he spent his campaign bashing bush for his wars, then he himself puts our country in the same situation only for his personal needs to draw attention away from his self inflicted scandals. War for Oil? This isnt even that....this is War for covering up Obamas personal failures. Where on earth are the anti war lefties? If this were Bush the megaphone and sign board factories would be running over-time right now trying to keep up with the leftist demands.

They just want their redistributed wealth. Obama could kill the whole third world as long as the American couch sitters get a gov't handout.

Agent_286, what is with this compulsion by some to automatically absolve President Obama of all responsibility in this call of HIS OWN MAKING for the United States to launch an unprovoked attack against Syria?

Are you suggesting that President Obama is too stupid or weak willed to be his own person? If so then why did the Left put him back into office in 2012 since it was already known by then precisely what sort of person he was as Commander-in-Chief?

If on the other hand President Obama is his own person, fully in command of the office of the presidency of the United States of American then those two Republican Senators are nothing more than useful advisers and [in this instance] political allies in HIS plan to launch an unprovoked attack against Syria.

President Obama has been revealed to be every bit as much of a warmonger as ever was President Bush. It's just that Obama belongs to the Left in all his fabled glory.

    Oh, what sweet irony!

A Noble Peace Prize winner needs a cruise missile strike to get himself out of trouble.

Don't forget that he's also a Constitutional Law Scholar who believes that the President of the United States of America does not need the authorization of the Legislative Branch in order to commit an act of unprovoked war. Methinks his former students should probably apply for a course refund.

The war pigs from both parties are coming together to achieve their common goal of murder and mayhem in the ME. No one's being drawn, tricked, or trapped into anything except the American people as usual. The regime doesn't even bother to back up its claims with any actual evidence while the presstitute media gushes over how "strong" of a case they are making. What a disgusting, macabre circus.
