That's moot. Were successful and rural, what strategic resources we use we trade for, inherent proof of mutual gain. We're that rich because we're innovative, industrious etc. Without us the world economy wouldn't be nearly as good. F***, we rebuilt Europe.

And without us you wouldn't have had benefit of our inventions and tech advancements. International trade wouldn't be protected as it is today. Countries hit by natural disasters wouldn't have the generous benefit of our aid. The majority of medical and computer innovations come from us. We are in culture what Paris once was. Without American food exports millions would starve. We are the Mecca of the gaming industry and home entertainment.

Since the purpose of this thread is a hope/wish that my country would just go away, forgive me if I'm not worried about any perceived arrogance in thinking that the world needs us more than we need them. If the US just up and vanished, the World economy would collapse into a major depression. Much of the world's capital is within the US and the US dollar is the world's reserve currency. It would be pretty much worthless without the full faith and credit of the US Treasury.

If the rest of the world disappeared except the US, it would be an economic shock, but a recoverable one. Unfortunately we can't play that experiment out huh?

As it is, without the US you would need a new boogie man. I wonder how long Israel or Jews in every other country would last without the US? If there is one thing I've learned since being on this board. The entire world would go full on Holocaust if they thought they could get away with it. Without the US, they might re-assess the odds of pulling that off.

How finite is it? We now have technology to exploit shale oil for example. Just because something appears scarce at the moment does not mean it will always be so.
