Cop kills young black gentleman in front of his mama.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Authorities are investigating the death of a 16 year old after he was shot by a police officer Sunday night.

Fayetteville police said Officer Christopher Hunt initially responded to a domestic dispute at a house when things quickly got out of hand.

Police said when Hunt arrived at the scene, he arrested a man involved in the domestic dispute, however, as he was putting the suspect in the car, the man's mother attacked him.

Police said when Hunt tried to arrest the woman, the 16 year old and several others confronted him.

"The dude with the hoodie, the one who got shot, he had his hands out. The police officer told him to get on the ground. He didn't, so the police officer shot him," said an eyewitness.

"As the young man continued to advance, [Officer Hunt] told the man to back up, get away from him. The young man pulled his shirt up with his left hand there was a handgun in the waist band the young man began to draw that handgun out and officer hunt fired at least three rounds," said Chief Medlock.

The teen, later identified as Shaqur McNair, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

McNair's uncle, Rev. Robert Alford, told ABC11, that the family wants answers.

"We want to find out what happened," said Alford. "Was the correct protocol followed? When the officer came in, why didn't he come in by himself? If that protocol says they have to have two officers when they come in, two vehicles, why was he alone and by himself? Why did the shooting take place? Did it have to happen? Could there have been another avenue?"

Medlock has addressed the protocol issue saying that the officer did not break protocol by answering the call alone. However, there is a new rule in effect. Officers will have to team up on domestic calls.

McNair was a junior at Westover High School.

School officials told ABC11 that there were counselors on campus Monday.

"Shaqur was a great student. He was low profile and you barely knew he was around. However, he often had conversations in the hall with me," said Westover Principal Dr. Thomas Benson.

Benson said McNair got good grades and was popular student.

McNair's family is calling for an investigation and plans to contact the NAACP.

The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting the criminal investigation into the shooting, which is standard in an officer involved shooting. Authorities also noted that during an investigation, detectives recovered a handgun that was reported stolen in South Carolina in February 2012.

Officer Hunt has been placed on administrative duty, pending the outcome of the investigation. The Fayetteville Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit will also conduct an internal investigation.

Meanwhile, authorities have charged 39-year-old Alfricka Bennett with assault on a government official for the alleged assault on Officer Hunt.

Fayetteville, NC used to be a very rough town.

Where did they find the stolen handgun?

If he did raise his shirt and there was a gun there, he committed suicide by cop. If true, it's the cop I feel empathy for.

Retard cops like this guy arrested my mother once. Then they took her to a strange city and dumped her out on the street late at night and left her to wonder where she was or how to get home.
Cops are for people control, to raise revenue, protect politicians and bureaucrats, and bring in new victims for the Law Enforcement Growth Industry.

Way too soon to judge anything in my opinion. But I hope the press this time gives out a full and accurate depiction of who this kid is.

In my general experience however, I have found "good grades" and "good student" don't coincide with a gun in their waistband.

Obviously since the NAACP is about to be involved, we won't see any of my hopes come true.

If he had a gun then it's unfortunate, but it's a clean kill. Although I might release the mother considering she lost her kid.

There's other cops who shoot unarmed people who require prosecution.

Conflicts in the story. The witness said that the victim refused to get down on the ground, so the LEO shot him. Later on, the Chief says that the kid had a gun. Maybe the witness didn't see that. Maybe the LEO felt a bit overwhelmed by the situation, and irrationally reasoned that shooting one would put him back in control.

Sounds like a clean shoot to me, but yeah, they really need to work out a new protocol on DV calls.
