Exactly he's just seen as incompetent because he wasn't given a job just because of race or a quota. AA undermines the accomplishments of minorities and highlights the faults. That's why it's a terrible thing that needs to go away. Why would a minority want a position they didn't earn?

This is what happens when the government gets involved with hiring procedures. As someone who has taken fire department entrance exams; you want people who are not only physically ability to do the job but who also has some type of intelligence.
When you go in to a structure fire, you want someone next to you who can do the job. That person should be able to do their job regardless of their race.
AGREED, but please show proof that unqualified minorities are being given extra points on exams to allow them entrance into the workforce when an exam is mandatory!!! Other then basic job requirements for a government job, such as American citizen and living in NYC, I don't know what the quals are to get hired on with the FDNY. But, I do know that when you go through the FDNY academy you are drawing a pack check. That right there means you have been hired on with the city.

Seems fair to me. If they had just been hired when they first applied - instead of being discriminated against - they might not be having so many problems.
They have been hired by the city on a probationary term pending their graduation from the fire academy and a year on the job. So yes they are drawing a paycheck right now. Most of these guys are in their 30's and 40's now. They are not physically ability to do the job anymore. Which begs the question why did New York and the FDNY waste money hiring them and bring them on when their able to do it? To get hired you have to go through what is known as the CPAT which is 10 stations that test your ability to do fire related tasks such as pulling hose, rescuing people, carrying stuff, etc, etc, etc and you have to pass it in 10:20. I think that city used the result from 10 years when these who were younger and ability to do the job. I stated it before, if you go in a structure fire, you want someone who can do their job and help you if it hits the fan. As long as that person can do their job, don't care if their are white, black, Mexican or asian.
You can't really blame it. This corrective measure is like a pendulum. It attempts to correct one broad imbalance by providing a countermeasure. You sneer about progressevism, but don't incorporate into your criticism the reason why the court has to mandate such things or why these measures, which you see as unfair, have to exist in the first place. If you take a look into the history of this country, you kind of have to admit that the only reason we are a progressive society is because the courts had to force it to be. Or the courts were forced by those people who were disenfranchised...
Let me see?? We are short of doctors and nurses so I'm guessing that the state boards give licenses to the top X% which leaves out smarter people who didn't get a spot in med school because of their paleness. And in some states they are rejecting Asians too. Take a look at our federal government employees and tell us why minorities are way over represented?
