The Philippines kicked the US out in 1992, but we're supposed to rescue them now?

Really? Because wasn't that about the time we started TRADING with Communist China and filling up the shelves at Wal-mart with their cheap goods?!?!?

    - - - Updated - - -

BTW, have to love these Rightwingers who say "Screw them foreigners"....

and then whine because the world doesn't want to join in with us, on one of their wars in the Middle East.

Nothing against the situation. I understand the strategic use. I just grow tired of The US carrying a large finical burden. It is time the world step up. Also, friendship with allies should be based on the common good between 2 Nations not how much annual financial aid a country receives from the US tax payer. Feels sleazy.

Look at this graph, seems the Philippine Government is smart and plays both sides equally:

I guess my question is China's motivation and how long can Japan sustain the cost? This is why impart I suggested limited Humanitarian aid. Philippine government needs to get off the fence.

I'm sure that the animosity between China and the Philippines has something to do about it. There seems to be a difference of opinion on some island(s) that China wants to claim as it's own.
    See:
China-Philippines Dispute Over Island Becomes More Heated ...
    www.nytimes.com/.../china-philippines-dispute-over-island-gets-more...
May 11, 2012 ยท China escalated its quarrel with the Philippines over an island in the South China Sea, halting Philippine bananas at customs for longer inspections.

So instead of improving our relations with the Philippines, you rather us leave them the way they are? You talk about how we should refuse to help them because of events that happened 20 years ago, but you don't talk about how this support could help us work together as nations? If for no other reason, this is a golden opportunity for us to give them an obligation to ally with us. If we help them now, not only will we improve our relationship that has been soiled for years, but we could also possibly use their cooperation sometime in the future.

Libs are funny. So this would be a golden opportunity to rushing in with millions and millions of dollars and aid, and then when they get back on their feet they tell us to go (*)(*)(*)(*) ourselves again? We have played that game over and over ever since the end of WWII with the Philippines. Let China help them this time. We don't have the money to rescue everybody in the whole (*)(*)(*)(*)ing Third World.

Hey, I've got a great idea. Right now would be a golden opportunity for the US government to send me millions and millions of dollars. Maybe I would quit hating the stupid bastards in Washington if they would pile up the money for me for a change. :woot:

I'd think human suffering would trump politics. I would rather have our nation export humanitarian aid than bombs.

What a weird thread? Let's put it this way; when a nasty natural disaster happens somewhere in the world, it's expected that countries with the resources and know-how will lend a hand to the country trying to cope with the disaster. It's always a shame when someone has to drag in history, religion or race into this straightforward and laudable idea.

I just looked it up - 151 nations made offers during Katrina. Most where declined with a thank you note.

Not to point out the obvious, but the fact we were made to take our troops elsewhere by the government has nothing whatsoever to do with assisting victims of a typhoon. The victims of the typhoon had nothing to do with the decision to kick out our troops. Not that kicking our troops out has even been established as a bad thing.

The logic used in the OP is the same logic Al Qaeda uses. Innocent people must be forced to suffer for things their government did despite the victims having nothing whatsoever to do with it. Basically just a stupid, illogical post. In other words, typical PF stuff.

Is the concept of basic human decency so difficult to comprehend?

So who's first to call the US, greedy, scum sucking, selfish, war mongers while watching us lead the way, ONCE AGAIN, in a disaster that's not on our shores? By the way, how much is China doing to help? Oh, yeah, barely a blip. Once again, we'll do the most, give the most and lead the way, and tomorrow people will call us a bunch of dummies who murder children.....sad.

One part of me wants to help. But the other says, imagine what that money can do here? Helping nations that thumb their noses EXCEPT when they need us, makes me want to say, &$%*#(# you. Aren't we told to stay out of everyone's business?

in other words, you don't believe in doing good for the sake of doing good - only when there is a gain in it ?
that is some level of class you right wingers have -

Hmm I have to agree. Regardless of politics, Americans should take the high road and save lives if it is within our power. It is what makes us who we are. The macro level doesnt matter so much when people are suffering at the micro level.

Leave Christianity out of this! You hyperlibs leave Christianity completely out of our national lives, and you have done everything possible to make sure that Christian values and practices have been cut out of everything connected to the Federal Government. So, now you're going to whine about how we have to be all "Christian" toward a country that threw us out on our asses, stole everything they could lay their hands on, and seriously harmed our whole Pacific stability at a time when it was so crucially important? Behold! The hypocritical liberal mind at work!

As so many of you hyperlibs love to point out, nations are not individual people. A nation's economy should never be confused with the way an individual person conducts his personal financial affairs (does this sound familiar?) I believe in nations helping other nations they have respectful, mutually-beneficial relationships and alliances with. Apart from that, NO nation owes any other nation anything!

But we're going to "get" to spend at least a quarter of a billion dollars getting the Subic Bay naval station back in operation after the Philippinos threw us out in '92? Oh, joy! Maybe we should kiss their asses for the privilege of getting to go back and rebuild the whole thing from the ground up so that they can throw us out again later and steal everything we put in there... again! Meanwhile, it will be well-understood that we are expected to keep the money and aid coming, and coming, and coming after this typhoon. We NEVER learn....

Us “HyperLibs” (Whatever the (*)(*)(*)(*) that means?) are already godless, communist, socialist, cannibalistic heathens. Out to destroy the country and of course Christianity.. (obviously, duh!) So of course we leave it out. As a self-proclaimed Christian, what’s your excuse for this pathetic thread that is a blasphemy of your religious teachings? Other than being a heartless (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) of course?

I think we should provide help anyway we can - as part of a worldwide aid effort. These suffering children caught up in this disaster don't know anything about politics. They're just children torn away from their families.
