Bill de Blasio wins mayor’s race in New York, ushering in new era of liberal governance

I said it before and I stand by it: NYC is a piece of heck hole, I can stand Chicago, I can stand LA, I can stand Tokyo, Bangkok, Malina ... heck I can even stand Detroit but I can never put up with NY. I'd never been there longer than 2 weeks, I don't go there unless business calls, there has always been something weird and wrong about that place, I can't tell what, just a hunch.

And well, you can't say intuition is always unreliable.

What's the problem? Liberals made NYC great in the first place.

You mean it's liberals designed and engineered all those skyscrapers in New York? It's liberals who attracted all those company headquarters? It's liberals who run all those major companies?

If that's what you mean (and I bet you are regretting as heck right now for slipping something so careless), please provide statistics and sources.

    Edit/Unnecessary innuendo

Oh and, I bet you didn't know this new mayor spent his honeymoon in luxury Datchas built by Fidel Castro for Russian advisers, did you?

People with liberal views don't engineer things? Really?

To be fair they probably designed them.

To be fair most engineering majors are apolitical.

Amongst those who do care about political matters, the majority are pro-conservative or pro-libertarian.

Only liberal arts majors who knows only how often did Lord Percy frequent the dwelling of Lord Black Adder with no marketable skills vote for liberals.

Oh I see. If a liberal leader succeeds, it's because non-liberals created the infrastructure. If a liberal leader fails, it's all his fault and has nothing to do with infrastructure. That's some hardcore rationalizing.

No. I didn't mention anything about what you're talking about.

NYC is a liberal city with liberal policies and a history of mostly liberal mayors (often very liberal). It's doing just fine, which frustrates assertions from the right that liberal leadership destroys cities. Some cities like Chicago and Detroit are losing their industry and have struggling economies, but other liberal cities like San Fransisco and NYC are thriving.

I really enjoy this "academic" discourse.

So? I hope he enjoyed his honeymoon. I haven't been to Cuba yet, but I've been to Key West and I love the laid-back culture.

You got my attention. What field of engineering are you in? A car mech or a comp tech isn't really an engineer, you know.

And are you sure you are a liberal?

I've only been to NY once and was glad to get out.

But then not all places in the world are like where I live.

One is left to wonder if you felt NY was so terrible when Gulliani or Bloomberg ran it?

Yea good question, I guess NY is so blue that even republicans are off the mainstream and a bit far to the left.

I like NYC.. Lots to do and great restaurants, hotels and shows.. I don't know how I would adjust to living there full time.

I have never seen upstate NY State.. I think I would like that.

Depends. Do you enjoy being stopped and frisked for no reason?
The Bloomberg Admin. is fighting the repeal of Stop and Frisk even though they be lame ducks.
Gulliani was a fascist police state nightmare.

If you don't live in New York what the hell difference does it make to you who the mayor is?

I think Bloomberg use to be a republican before he turned independent. And Gulliani -- he put tons of camera's up; a police state basically. The new liberal mayor is going to be a disaster. But I don't live in NY nor do I like NY so I don't care. Business are already scared.

Strap you seat belt on. Just like Obamacare, it's going to be an interesting ride for NY city :) When things don't work out well, we can get a good laugh from it.

Sorry you feel that way. The first thing the Mayor will do is end the disgusting, disgaceful and illegal stop and frisk.

    - - - Updated - - -

Because a large % of our population lives there and a good Mayor can improve their standard of life, thereby enriching us all.

Really? I'm sitting here in Atlanta. Please explain to me how my life will be improved by the new Mayor of New York. Let me help you. It won't. Nothing he does will have the slightest impact on me.

Typing slowly for your benefit. Most of whatever is manufactured, grown, caught or cut down in your state is shipped to New York and consumed there. When New York does well the country does well.

Really? You might want to provide a link showing that most products produced in Georgia goes to New York. Let me clue you in: That is not even the slightest bit true. Jeez, what a stupid post.

How is Computer Engineering not engineering?

And yes, proud tree-hugging lib here.

Upstate is nice. Kodak's closing really changed the economic landscape. Fort Drum is still a huge employer, though.

I lived in NYC for years but I still go out walking around for hours whenever I visit; there's always something new. Manhattan amazes me -- so many people and yet not as crowded as many people think.
