Time For A $30 Per Hour Minimum Wage

If one becomes sick and can't work, does it really matter if they were earning MW or $50K?

Even if you didn't, I don't think they offer tours of the kitchen. All you can see from the counter are orders coming out. If min wage was $30, the only thing back there would be robots.

The way to get the overton window to shift back to true center is for the left to drag it back by ALSO making ridiculous demands just as the far right does to offset the balance. We need some radical people to propose straight up socialism. That way we get something that's actually in the center of the political spectrum. Right now, we've got too much pendulum velocity to the right and thus our race to the bottom at the moment.

It's not that right wingers are wrong, but they're wrong for the majority. We need a mix of right and left policies in order to satisfy the public at large and right now, even our 'liberal representatives' are mislabeled as they're really just center right in the true spectrum of political ideologies.

Point is, never in the history of the US have people earning MW been able to afford luxuries like buying a house or driving a new car on their salary alone. Have Americans gotten so stupid they can't get a 'real' job?

 

There are over 30 million people out of work; there is not over 30 million jobs out there, no matter how many McDonald's they build.

 

Then we should be worrying about creating jobs instead of paying bun flippers $30/hr, shouldn't we?

 

The price of everything would go up and what a dollar could buy would be reduced. It would be nice to think that reducing minimum wage to a penny a day would cut the cost of everything to 17th century levels, but it wouldn't since the world has raised the ante. Face it, we will raise the minimum wage and the price of everything will go up and one day we may need a wheelbarrow full of dollars to buy a loaf of bread.

The dollar is the new penny.

 

I don't know where you've been the past few years (unless this is some partisan viewpoint on your part) but the government is working to create new jobs; not as fast as many would like, but nonetheless, the levels of unemployed people are dropping.

They're forcing through legislation and regulation most people disagree with and which will harm most people, e.g., Obamacare. The President has openly declared his intention to do what he wants through executive orders, flouting the law and the Constitution in the manner of a dictator. The left has a large and vocal minority in the House. On the Supreme Court, there are 4 left, 4 right, and Anthony Kennedy. That balance could change at any time if a serving judge dies or retires. The news media are overwhelmingly leftist, with Fox the exception, and some radio stations. Most major newspapers are leftist, and the Wall Street Journal belongs to the "moderate" RINO right. Leftists dominate many state governments and courts.

Only a leftist could perceive this environment as having swung too far to the right. What's changed is that the intellectual and moral fervor which characterized the first years of the Obama Administration has shifted from the left to the right. But that's the left's own doing. They had the momentum and they lost it for a simple reason: given political supremacy, they could no longer conceal the true content of their program. When out of power, they could tell people the marvelous things they would do for them if only they had the power. So the 2008 election was ruinous for them. For 2009 and 2010, they controlled both houses of Congress and could do anything. They did worse than nothing. They hurt the country. Deeply. So now they're in eclipse. Had they helped people, they wouldn't be. Their current problems are political justice. I suspect they'll be much happier telling people again of the marvelous things they'll do as soon as they retake power.

 

You don't know much about the real political spectrum do you? Socialism is left. Feudalism and chrony capitalism is on the right.

Think about what we have here. It's FAR from socialist in the strictest of sense. As well, religion tends to play a bigger role in the right and what do we have constantly coming up as far as policies from policy maker? Religious dogma based law proposals.

Get with the program. We can be a centrist nation. Don't let the label 'democrat' fool you. They're just Reagan-style right, save for a couple who've refused to take corporate donations.

 

We'll have McDonalds make up the difference.

I'm sorry, but I don't think very many people are going to agree with your standards.
