I find it hard to call a 6,000 man force entering a country of 50millon at the request of a disputed government an "invasion." My understanding on the specifics are foggy, but it seems that Ukraine had an internal power-struggle and a revolution or 'coup', yes? And so Russia has not recognized the revolutionary government, and still recognizes the previous government, and entered (supposedly) at the request of that 'rightful' government.

Putin has his ducks lined up in a row, here. This isn't an invasion. our own Confederate states had more standing for legitimacy.

I don't see the issue. Is it largely ineffective? Yeah, it is. But at least some things get done.

Then the question needs to be asked would a better use of resources yield a better outcome? :hmm:

South Koreans and Cypriots, among others, would probably say it was worth it and I'm inclined to agree.

I would advise you to take a look at the US federal budget that has us paying about $7B a year to the UN and all its related agencies, funds, and projects, but we haven't had a real budget since Obama took office, so you will have to take our word for it that we pay the biggest chunk of the budget for that otherwise worthless organization. That said, Russia and China are both members of the security council and either could veto any UN action. Personally if I were King Smevins of America, we would not be in the UN at all, though I support Russia on this particular point of geopolitics.

For those that are so ignorant of history, the only reason that the UN did something about Korea was the fact that the USSR had walked out of the UN, and a resolution was passed to aid South Korea.
