Not all scientists are competent, and every single one of them is fallible. And no, the scientific community does not accept all of the incompetent scientists work as competent.

In fact, if you do some research you will find that there are built in checks and balances in science. Look up what repeatability, prediction of results, and peer review. While not perfect by any means, they do stand out as a definitive examples of how science works. Its a rather more pro-active and effecive method to identify the charlatans, fakirs and crooks, than one finds in say, the world of religion.
