    In before it's closed...

Texas, of course. Nobody wants to see that happen. ;)

Well armed, economically self sufficient, well populated... good choice. Maybe Utah. It doesn't have as many people but they're better prepared for disaster.

I agree that Texas would win, for many reasons. Why not?

Well, some might argue California because it has a lot more people, has much smarter people and is strategically placed

I hadn't thought about intelligence as a strategic edge but looking for a few minutes on google seems to indicate that the average IQ in California is 5 points lower than the average in Texas.

That's a toughie. Obviously population has a lot to do with it but resources, land placement, and crime ratio is to be taken into consideration. Personally I would say Alaska would have a pretty good chance since they're not bordered by any "enemies". I think California would do pretty good too.

    Texas.

Only state with its own power grid separate from rest of the country. Traditional militarily inclined and armed population. Petrochemical industry.

I can understand where you're coming from but I think Texas would have a tougher time then most would originally think. It would make sense to me for the bordering states to attack Texas first. Put them on the defensive. Texas would be busy fighting multiple fronts without having time to worry about going on the assault. It would eventually wear them down and their resources leaving them unable to fight to their full potential.

Are you kidding? At this point, Mexico is on our side. Texas is the home of mucho dinero that lines the pockets of our illegal friends. Just from my lawn guys, I can make a call and have half of Oklahoma taken out! :roflol:

Kidding aside... the country as a whole could do a lot worse than emulate Texas govt. With a legislature that only meets every two years for 140 days, things run pretty good. We should try that in DC.

I'll second Alaska due to the remote location plus a lot of well armed people.

I'm still iffy about that. I would be willing to bet that Texas has a harder time then anyone would initially realize. Just pretend for one moment that you're Arizona. On the chance that the four bordering states attack Texas, would you bother attacking New Mexico or would you let them go ahead and concentrate the majority of their forces on attacking one your most dangerous enemies and dwindle their's and Texas' resources and man power?

And I think officially Mexico would stay out of the fight but they would send guerilla fighters to help the ones that would be willing to grease their hands. They would bide their time first and then offer an alliance with the prevailing states for territory.

If attacked maybe, but on the offensive, their supply chain would be strained.

I would have to agree with this. The only real time they could afford to go on the offensive is to take over a state that has already been to weakened to sustain anymore fighting on their end.

would the united states military stationed in each state be aligned with the state they are with in?
a very impertinent question that needs an answer before I can give you my opinion

Nah, Texas would just close off our northern borders and wait til the other states killed each other off fighting for supremacy. California would probably win that battle due to the coastline they would hog from everybody else.

It would come down to Texas vs California. Fairly even match considering the lawn boys.

This is one of those times where we're seeing things differently. The only state wouldn't really give Texas any problems is Louisianna. It wouldn't take to long to put them down. They can either then invade and take control of the state and stretch their resources even more or leave it to rot until a rival state takes it for themselves and begin their attacks once again.

All bias aside Texas has a long fight ahead of them. And all the majority of the states have to do is let New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississipi(if they even attack)and Louisiana wear Texas down. That would be the best strategic position for any other state to take.

CA, if they go at it right. They've got the most money and people, but they ARE flaky/stupid, so it's a tossup.

I got to say I thought this was a pretty dumb thread when I first saw it but I'm surprised by how much thought I'm actually putting into it.

I dont think you could find 10,000 guys with fighting ability, gear, and "heart" in either state, and you might not get 1000 in either one. :)
