    Moscow (AFP) - Russia will respond if its interests are attacked in Ukraine, as they were in South Ossetia in 2008 which led to war with Georgia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

    "If we are attacked, we would certainly respond," he told state-controlled RT television in an interview


    funny, how could Russia be attacked in Ukraine........unless their personnel are in Ukraine??

    Do not waste your time and our time. Russia will not attack Ukraine. Ukrainians will attack each other first, the Maidans will run.

    It's because he regards the Russian-speaking Ukrainians as Russians all the same.. In fact I'm pretty sure that was mentioned in the interview.

    LOL, where did RuSSkie Goebbels find Russian-speaking Ukrainians in the eastern ukr ? or did he talk about Russian GRU agents ? i saw the Russian speakers in lviv (bilingual mostly) in the eastern parts all speaks - Surzhik

    But they aren't Russians. They are Ukranians.

    It'd be like Sarkozy annexing parts of Newfoundland because he perceived Francophones in those areas as being persecuted. And btw France does have an island south of Nfld. called St Pierre and Miquelon.

    It is Canadian soil.

    For anyone who disagrees. Ukraine belongs to Ukraine no matter what language is spoken.

    The US is in Poland to support NATO. Let's hope other NATO countries provide support as well. We should have been in Poland in 1938 as well.

    Slovakia joined NATO and EU in 2004. They are a NATO country. What did they think NATO's mission was?

    I sympathize with Ukraine, but do you really see this happening?

    I don't think that Putin is stupid enough to invade Ukraine. It's akin to Hussein attacking Kuwait -- an innocent, sovereign state that did not want to be a part of Iraq.
