Maryland is set to dump their exchange website, Minnesota and Oregon don't seem far behind. The Maryland Democrats spent $125.5 million taxpayers dollars on a system "that crashed within moments of launching"! Now, they're going to spend more to buy someone else's system? It now appears Minnesota and Oregon may waste their taxpayers dollars the same way. "Oregons health insurance exchange, plagued by computer flaws after federal taxpayers spent $303 million to build it, may be closed and the states customers shifted to the U.S. Obamacare marketplace." I'd like to ask the citizens of Oregon, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Vermont, how are your roads? Hit many potholes in the road that jar the fillings in your teeth? If you do you need to ask yourselves if the tens or hundredes of millions of dollars wasted on Obama Care websites that fail would have been far better spent on your crumbling roads and bridges? Time to vote the folks responsible out of office in their next election cycle.
My roads in Massachusetts are terrible, despite paying heavilly in taxes. Just to own a Car in Massachusetts is expensive. The car payment, the mandatory insurance, the registration, the inspections, the excise taxes, and of course the gas itself and the taxes I pay there. My fun car is my Corvette. This car is very sensitive to bumps and potholes as you could imagine, and here in Massachusetts it's almost no fun to drive it. Luckilly it handles well, so I can zig zag all around and try to avoid the potholes...but it's just insulting how we can pay so much here...and get so little in return. Too much money wasted on what they WANT to do, is taking away their ability to do what they NEED to do. i dont want to hear excuses about winter weather either, because neighboring NH is a pleasure to drive through. It's mismanagement, plain and simple.
seems like roads only get repaved durring election cycles AND roads that dont need to be repaved are usually the ones that are.
Oregon already had the Oregon Health Plan which was far superior to Obamacare already. Unlike Obamacare, all Oregonians had access to basic health care. There was no need to waste a dime on that steaming pantload of a website which the Oregon Consumer Protection Agency has asked all Oregonians to avoid because its complete lack of security. Cover Oregon was merely a way for the Democratic Party of Oregon to cheerlead Obamacare at the taxpayer's expense. By the way, after 303 million dollars spent, Oregon still doesn't have a working web site and they estimate it may take another 300 million to fix it. The cost of an off the shelf web program and expertise to modify it to fit Oregon's needs would be around 3 million but the SEIU has enough pull in Oregon to insist that government workers design the new web site. Nobody is going to get fired for this and Governor John Kitzhaber is probably going to get re-elected.
Fortunately California is just next door so anything Oregon does doesn't seem quite so incompetent and stupid by comparison.
This is the price of More Government, plain and simple and quantifiable. What is the "progressive" solution to this problem? MORE GOVERNMENT!! Which brings us to the definition of insanity...
I am truly touched by your concern and deep empathy for the plight of Oregonians. So, if I get the point of your post, it is okay to be stupid, ugly, socially awkward, or redolent just as long as someone near you is worse than you. Truly words to live by. And to think I wasted 625 dollars and 120 hours of my life taking those three philosophy courses in college.
If it was not for the California progressive leftist transplants on the I-5 corridor, we would have a great state. Leftists in California made it suck so bad they wanted to leave, then they came to Oregon and made it suck too.
The ironic thing is that Cover Oregon was suppose to be the poster child for how great Obamacare was....maybe not so ironic after all now that I think about it.
I feel your pain. We've gone through a similar transformation here in Virginia since the size of the federal government began exploding during the 1960s and 70s. Big Government Nanny State apparatchiks are bringing the suck to the Old Dominion, big time. Surely, the Sage of Monticello is rolling over in his grave...
So...let me get this straight. According to the right wing, Obamacare is still bad? I'm just checking, I'm not sure if there is another thread about Obamacare being bad on this forum or not. Let me check...
So....let me get this straight. You think this thread is about Obamacare? Just checking. I was under the impression that this thread was specifically about the crappy rollout of Oregon's enrollment system that cost Oregon tax payer millions of dollars and is still not working. Let me check.....
I was born, raised and lived in Connecticut till I was 27, so I am familiar with the roads. I have lived in Southern California since (56 now), I can tell you the roads here are only marginally better.
Yes, that about sizes things up. Cheer up! I was just trying to find a silver lining here and why would I wish real harm on a place where my daughter resides and where I hope to relocate soon (Milwaukie would be nice, I think)? Like California, Oregon is a captive of the major coastal population centers and destructive one party rule. It's hard to imagine the fruits and nuts that flocked to the coasts back in the 70's and 80's ever coming to their right minds so we might as well laugh at the absurdity of leftist government and remain in imbedded subversive cells waiting for the coming implosion when we spring back into power....or move to Idaho.
"Let me be clear"......Yes, Obama Care is still bad, Democrats will find out in November just how bad. With that being said, this thread is about the Block-headed Morons administering it. Time after time they prove Dave Barry right..........Democrats have the management skills of Celery.
Actually, it isn't the coastal population that is controlling Oregon. It is the metro areas from Portland (including Milwaukie) to Eugene.
You are right, strictly speaking. I was using the word "coastal" as a relative term delineating the western most third of the state from the other two-thirds east of the Cascades.
Oh, I agree that Obamacare is bad and will probably get worse it the future. However, even if Obamacare was a glowing success, Cover Oregon would still be the pile of crap that it is. Sadly, celery is more competent than our State's current administration. - - - Updated - - - Ah...I see. We call that the Western Cascade region.
Milwaukie used to be nice and now they are rolling a steel wheeled crime corridor through the middle of it in the guise of light rail mass transit. I live in Oregon City which is as close as you can get to Portland and still not be a part of Portland. To find Oregon City, go to Portland and start driving south until you start seeing normal and decent people.
Yes. Regardless of my errant nomenclature I still plan on making my Snake Plisken-like "Escape From California" soon.
Right wing? I prefer real American personally. Lets test your intellectual honesty. http://www.conservativecrusader.com/articles/congress-uses-sham-poll-to-force-total-control-obamacare
The problem with commenting on the atrociousness of Obamacare is that Obamacare is atrocious in a multi-dimensional and multi-faceted way. One thread commenting on all the heinous aspects of the worse law ever passed simply will not do. In order to argue about every aspect of how awful Obamacare is, we need threads for each of those aspects. And since Obama himself has no confidence in the law, in that he already delayed 25 mandated deadlines, we will need to comment about each of those aspects of the law when their suckiness becomes evident to everyone. In short, Obamacare is a gift that will keep on giving for a very long time to come, so if you want to avoid the subject, and what liberal wouldn't, then perhaps you could stop reading the threads. I feel your pain and I am trying to help you out here.
Is it near Salem, which is where my daughter is now (after living in Portland for awhile)? I may check your burgh out the next time I'm there.
You don't remember that 1970's song from the Eagles do you? "Republik of California" Welcome to the Republik of California Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely farce Plenty of room in the Republik of California Any time of year (Any time of year) They can tax it here Last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back To the place I was before "Relax, " said Jerry Moonbeam, "We are programmed to receive. You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave! "
