This situation will lead to creation of Russia’s own software and hardware. Up to now, 92 percent of Russian companies are using foreign software and IT-technologies, experts say.

Can't help but agree. This will end up a boon for Russia in the long-run.

And I've always felt that people and businesses are better off without Micro$haft products..

I'd love to see more of that myself. I went looking for Russian Linux distributions once and was disappointed at how few there seemed to be.

Russia is being placed in a position where it may become necessary for them to develop their domestic industry in new ways. These sactions could easily end up being an economic kickstarter of sorts.

I'll bet investors are thinking the same way. No doubt there will be investment there if this sanction nonsense continues, even if it's through unofficial channels. Likely it is even the same parasites who have bled the US dry in recent decades, and especially in recent years, who will be doing so.

The Soviet System, like 0bama's America, did not reward innovation. It takes a free market system for that to happen.

I don't know what the current business environment is like in Russia, but it can't be as bad as it was under the Soviet regime.

The stock market is a manipulated mess right now, though that's beside the point.

Actually, it's true that software is one of those areas where people can still go into business and find success, simply because there's a lot more potential for software than there is actual software being developed. It also always has a very large market.

If American software companies don't want to do business in Russia, though, somebody somewhere else will meet Russia's needs, whether they're in Russia or elsewhere, like in China or India. Heck, this might be the beginning of the end for Microsoft's global domination, looking very far into the future..

In truth, they have the most talented writers of computer virus' and spyware in the world. Some of these viruses are fiendishly clever, especially rootkits. They use behavioral psychology to dupe people into knocking down their own antivirus scanners and allowing these invaders to corrupt their programs, their browsers, and their registries. Worse, they get people's money for supposedly getting rid of the virus that they have created themselves, and, they get to know all kinds of personal information, including credit card numbers. I never met a dumb Russian, and some of them are quite intellectually criminal....

Sorry vis but there are no miracles, if Russian software developers were the best in the world they would have been producing their own soft for a very long time now. So far they excell in hacking, viruses and internet theft only.

Borat, they produce their own soft- there are actually many Russian software developers who work in Microsoft.

Actually, I do not believe that Microsoft or Oracle or whoever else from big monsters will stop cooperation with Russian companies. Business follow another rules, then politics. If they see a profit, they will continue business independent of whatever said authorities. Good example is Siemens- Merkel was blaming Siemens that they do not stop business with Russian Railways, but her words did not influence the decisions of the Siemens management who decided to continue cooperation.

Exactly, American companies produce soft, Russian companies don't produce sh&t despite the abandance of talanted developers. Russia has never been able to produce anything competitive and sanctions sure as hell will make things worse, not better.

oh but you better believe it or ask North Koreans or Iranians.... Big business in the West breaks/bends laws routinely...but they are not going to do it when they know full well they are going to be watched...and every tiny step of their dealings with Russia will be watched and scrutinized.

In my experience, you're both right, gentlemen. Perhaps the overriding take-away is that society works best when intelligent, educated, capable people are able to find opportunities for useful, creative venues to work in, and, paid well enough so that they are reduced to engaging in criminal activity.

The destruction of the Soviet Union entailed the ruin of many careers of thousands of highly-intelligent workers of many kinds. They went from living good lives and relatively good pay to subsisting on crap-jobs and handouts. Some migrated and found work in Europe and America, while many others simply got engaged in criminal activities... and got VERY good at it.

Microsoft is software maker . Nothing more.
You show me a picture of the old computer , but it does not mean that I have to use an old computer .
Components for computers is produce a variety of businesses and corporations. MSI, Gigabyte, Samsung, Asus and ect. Need to be a complete idiot , that would assume that Microsoft will affect for this .
Do you really think that Microsoft are ready to increase the share of its competitors in the market in Russia? MAC and Linux ? I disappoint you .
