The pettiness of Muslims never ceases to astonish me. They threaten to kill someone for drawing a cartoon making fun of Mohammed. They set forth a death order for someone who writes a book less than rosy about the prophet.

And, I openly admit that I have little or no positive feelings about Islam so posting this is clearly another statement by me in that vein. Read more @ http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-27622710

Try not thinking them as somehow separate from all the other petty and violent human beings. Less than a week ago I was threatened by some guy for "looking at his girlfriend" and if he was a Muslim, he wasn't very good at it.

Twitter rants have been caused by less. This is the most holy place for them and the sole of a shoe is considered unclean. From what I understand showing the sole of your foot is akin to giving the finger to someone.

You making a bigger deal of this and equating it to death threats is a bit much.

And taking the bottom of a shoe seriously isn't a "bit much"?

eh! giving the finger is the same thing. The f word is just a word. Different cultures have different ways to express themselves. 17k tweets with some positive ones included as well is well nothing.

How many twits did the America the beautiful coke ad get? Or whatever silly stuff riled up a group.

I could understand how hitting someone with a shoe would incite anger. Simply showing someone the sole of your shoe, however, couldn't possibly harm them -- no more so than mooning them would.

Saying f u couldn't possibly harm you. Showing someone the middle finger with or without bending the elbow and slapping your bicep with the other hand couldn't harm you but I assure you that those gestures and words have incited anger many times.

And continuing with all my previous examples hearing people sing "America the beautiful" in several different languages couldn't possibly hurt anyone but it also angered many people and I am pretty sure that got much more then 17k tweets.

If we got a photo of a Vatican soldier say spitting on St. Peter's Basilica I am pretty sure we would get many tweets as well. Spitting on the Basilica will not hurt anyone either.

The horse has bolted - decades ago. Adapt or perish.

I might not like all those things mentioned above, but there they are - in the world.
