He is the leader of the right-wing nationalist party in Japan, the Liberal Democrats. He wants to reestablish the Japanese army, opposes same-sex marriage, and supports nuclear energy (which is a very controversial issue in Japan.) As I said before, there aren't very many good choices internationally right now, and I disagree with Abe on marriage and energy. But "abenomics," as it's called (see url), is needed in the entire world right now, and that plus the whaling ban is enough for me to support him above most other world leaders.

What do you think of Fredrik Reinfeldt?

    Under Ideology:

    Conservatism
    Japanese Nationalism
    Populism

Scroll down to Ideology, First sentence: "The ideology of LDP is similar to the United States Republican Party."

Appearances can be deceiving, my friend. ;)

I like him, and his foreign minister Carl Bildt, and minister of finances Anders Borg. All three are very good and competent statesmen, and they're definitively pushing Sweden in the right direction economically.

Maybe you shouldn't be commentated on politics of countries you nothing about. Read my previous post; the Liberal Democrats are a right-wing nationalist party, and the American "definition" of liberal as left-wing is not shared virtually anywhere else in the world. The right-wing party in Australia is the Liberal Party. The Liberals of Canada and the Liberal Democrats of U.K. are centrist.

If we're allowed to do historical figures, my favorite would be...

Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of the French

Napoleon did more to help Europe than anyone that had come before him. The Napoleonic Wars led to the abolition of the Spanish Inquisition, the fall of Feudalism and the spread of religious tolerance. Outside of Europe, Napoleon's war in Egypt led to the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, which allowed us to decipher Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

Napoleon also pioneered driving on the right (Originally as a tactic in battle), implemented the Napoleonic Code, instituted a tax code and instituted a road and sewer system.

It is unfortunate that Napoleon was ultimately defeated. If only he had launched the attack at the Battle of Waterloo a few hours earlier, the course of history would have been changed dramatically.

I note that Comrade President Imam Soetoro did not make the list. I think that is noteworthy.

Charles De Gaulle was perhaps the most decent leader the world ever has faced.

French-german friendship was basically made possible by his actions in the early 60ties. His idea about to have a european counter-balance to the anglo-saxon world was great. Unfortunately not realized until now (that means to stay best friends with the USA, but to be adult!)

    After him I would say:

    Willy Brandt, ex-german chancellor

Mustafa Kemal Attatürk for his modernisation of Turkey

President Wilson for his good intention after WW1

    Vaclav Havel (czech prime minister)

Lech Walesa for his resistance against the cold war and also his steps to a better german-polish relationship

Chirac and Schröder for their resistance to the Iraq war

    J-F Kennedy

...from the actual politicians I would say: Jean Claude Juncker, Luxembourg for is strong steps to solve the Euro crisis.

The actual worse leaders to me are:

Putin for is imperialistic fascist agenda
Cameron for is selfish unbearable english arrogant politics
Nigel Farage for beein a british fascist
Jean Marie Le Pen - same as Farage, simply french
Angela Merkel for beeing a nice mom but unable to be a strong politician in desiding something

About actual american politics I cannot say that much. The USA is not that much where worlds action is - you do live sort of on the side in a protected nice place. I like your country, but it is far far far away
