Welfare Nation: More than 1/3 of Americans now on the dole

It appears that the liberal plan of getting the nation on welfare in order to keep voting democrat.

Very sad that we have come this far because now the problem will only get worse. These welfare recipients will pass that knowledge to their many, many children who will be raised expecting government handouts.

That means that the democrats are automatically buying one third of the votes in the country.

IMO if you are taking welfare, you shouldnt be allowed to vote.

This is the most destructive social change liberalism has plagued our nation with, and it will be it's downfall. Propagating a dependent illiterate nation is the side affect that liberals never took into account, or maybe they did and just didn't care, as long as they get that vote and support from those sucking off the system

 

Welfare goes back to Ancient Athens who had an allowance for Citizens found unfit as adults equal to a third a freeman workers wage after examination by a city official.

In England our mother nation they provided for the needy with special homes, money and other support they deemed worthy infirmed.

All the Colonies also made provisions for the infirm, orphans and widows with children to some degree.

So there is nothing wrong with Welfare I'm on Traditional Medicaid and am likely to get SSI on appeal, my medical evidence is serious. And I get Food Stamps and a government paid basic phone. I'm very grateful let me add for this help, I know taxpayers are funding this.

My issues are two and yes I'm a critic in spots:

1. There is no partial benefit if you can work part-time you can't get partial benefits, with an assumption you work, other nations have some options so its all or nothing in some benefit areas.

2. It can be to generous no one here seems to think someone who needs help shouldn't get it but it should not be better than working an average lower paying job, unless your deemed unable to be employed at all one should be helped for a fair amount of time based on ones situation.

 

Liberals preach that it is an honor and a privilege to import third world people, support them with welfare, as long as they vote for liberals in elections. If you cannot see the moronic failure/economic collapse that liberals assure, you are smoking something that clouds your judgement

 

I don’t have a problem when people need help; welfare, food stamp, and sec. 8 housing. What I have a big issue is when people leach off the system and make no attempt to get off it, such as no looking or getting a job. If you’re on a welfare and haven’t found ANY type of job in five years, you’re not looking.

Since we give foreign aid to 143 countries, including Russia and China, the least we can do is to give our own citizens a few bucks per month. Why should we spend it all on the Israelis, Iraqis, Afghans, Egyptians, Russians, and Chinese?

 

You believe a 1/3 of America falls into this category? This is the problem with the welfare system in the US. Too many things constitute being worthy of welfare. Capable-bodied people get plenty of welfare in this country. I don't feel like working, and I therefore qualify for hand outs is acceptable. This isn't good. A country where everyone is a taker doesn't work.

I agree that welfare is currently being abused by the democrats for political gains. This type of thing should really be handled by the churches, and private charities, not government. However, the real issue here is that there is no economic opportunity.

 

Is that supposed to make sense. The American Dream and the Democrat Dream are quite different. The Democrat Dream of dropping out of school at 13, having fifteen kids, being on welfare for life is really not compatible with the American Dream which involves the drudgery of work. Years ago a woman was on television talking about getting expensive fertility treatments paid for by the taxpayers. She had five children and had never worked and when asked how she would support more kids she said, "God will provide." My immediate thought was that if a god would provide I wouldn't have to. He isn't doing his part.

 

I think that liberals were exposed to too many of those old National Geographic magazines they found in grannies attic.
