There is no question that well intentioned armed citizens shoot each other....you Regular Joe, may be John Wayne incarnate....but in 1978 in Puyallup, Wa....a man lured his sister's suitor to a basement washing machine claiming that the washing machine malfunctioned...once the suitor was in front of him...the shooter put two bullets in the back of his victim's head...one week prior this man had shot his own wife in the back ....he could have killed her with a tire iron...but his gun, purchased at JC Penney's the day before, was much more efficient or he could have run over her with his car...or drowned her in one of those omnipresent swimming pools they have in Alaska....or some John Wayne type could have been there to protect her...guns do kill people...every day of every week...
Murder has been around for tens of thousands of years. Nothing new here. If he didn't have a gun are you saying the murder wouldn't have happened?
You call me John Wayne because life under your bed is so tiny. You ridicule me as a semi-fictional character because you have failed in your own life experience prerequisites. If you don't have the existential fortitude to actually live, you are in no position to resent those of us who actually do. I'm sorry for you man. It's a fact that guns are used to kill every day. Guns don't do anything at all, but fit in the hand that wields them. Don't cry to me about how afraid you are of the facts of life!
LIfe under my bed is tiny? You stay out of my bedroom...I'm modest...No, I'm not ridiculing you as a semi-fictional character...John Wayne was real and if you knew anything about the real JW you knew he was a rabid right winger...please explain existential fortitude....however, regardless of the explanation...please refrain from characterizing me ...you don't know me...unless you have been to my bedroom many times....I wouldn't trade any of my seventy-five years for your best one...lived it my way...and...you'll be surprised...faced up to the boogie man several times without a gun...haven't needed one yet...but, I am wise enough to say that it isn't finished yet...and, there may be a time when I'll wish I had one....but, hasn't happened to this point...my modesty will not allow me to tell you what I have accomplished...but, I have been blessed...and the beat goes on...however, you missed the meaning of the John Wayne comment.....you do lean way to the right...right????
And if we banned cars and swimming pools thousands of lives would be saved. Think of the children! See how that works, Clem? Ripping out chunks of the Constitution isn't going to cure inner city gang violence nor make mentally ill people healthy.
Hey, thanks Max---will you be the first to hand out guns at mental institutions so we can expedite the process...swimming pools are soooooo slow....yes, guns don't kill people, people kill people...so, simply, let's provide them with guns.....maybe you've heard...change is part of life....that is truth...we can save children by changing a flawed document....yes, it is a document...it was not passed down to us by God...it was written by men...men with flaws just like you and me.....change the document and save a child...or maybe an adult....or perhaps a dog...a wife....a brother and the list goes on...all you lose is a toy...
I thought I was starting to understand your side of things with your response to me, but now you say "all you lose is a toy". You don't understand that the 2A is the guarantor of the rest of the document. The key to the Kingdom which is exclusively American Liberty. You say that you have reached the age of 75 without ever having needed a gun. This is exactly what I meant when I said that you have not the existential wherewithal to stand on a podium before the rest of us. A man doesn't have to be in a violent urban setting or a bar room brawl to find himself in a situation where it would sure be nice to have a boom stick. Many of us feel compelled to go in harms' way in the pursuit of lifes' adventures. I had one of those adventures cut short once because a big brown bear wanted me for chow, and I had no gun with me at the time. I've been able to carry on with other adventures where some idiot shot at me, and I had the ability to shoot back. Our guns are NOT toys, Clem, they enable us in the pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness. It is not we who have brought this to bear, but rather, it's simply the way of the world. Those who seek power over others will dominate any man who cannot oppose them. We became America by throwing off that domination, and we will NEVER be victim to it again.
Agreed. Some people don't get it. In Clem's case, if someone supports our Constitutional rights, it means they also support handing out "guns at mental institutions". Kinda makes me wonder who belongs in a mental institution!
