Who needs all that? Apparently all you need to do is say "science" and the deadly Ebola virus is rendered not contagious.

Which is why you have the 21-day MONITORING period. Not quarantine; monitoring.

" Health officials said Tuesday they’re prepared to legally enforce the state’s “voluntary” quarantine on health care workers who’ve treated Ebola patients."

so they did not really want it to be “voluntary”, lol, it's “voluntary”, but if you don't do it, we will force you to do it

    I missed absolutely nothing.
Your answer is yes you can but no you cant.
    LOL the leftist mind.
To the rest of the readers, the actual answer is yes you can get Ebola from someone sneezing on you. According to our resident medical expert/quantum physicists, those odds are the same as gravity reversing. Ask yourself if you believe that enough to test that theory. Bet raytri wont.

Texas tested this, they sent an infected man home that had symptoms, not a single person got infected when he was out there in the real world, which tells us it's not as infectious as some would have us believe

Are you suggesting the people mentioned in the article are not experts? And do you have any studies that dispute what is in the article?

So Dr. Thomas G. Ksiazek, an expert in Ebola at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, doesnt know anything about Ebola right?

http://www.vet.k-state.edu/alumni/awards/recognition/ksiazek.html ... this guy isnt an "actual expert"?

Yeah right? They need to tell that to the folks over in Sierra Leone. I'm sure they'll be thankfull.

Your list of bodily fluids didn't include vomit, but it did include saliva. So maybe your question should be "would you kiss someone with saliva in their mouth".

Yes, do you? A person can be symptomatic by showing as little as one symptom. It definitely doesn't mean you have to wait until a person is showing EVERY sign before calling them "symptomatic". So a symptomatic person may not currently be vomiting, as your question above implies.

And if everyone was as careful as you present yourself to be, then I would have much less cause for concern. Unfortunately, we know that they are not.

Pssst . . . if the medical professionals (plus one news reporter) are saying that they WILL self-quarantine and then it turns out that they lied about that how can anyone trust them to adequately self-monitor? Maybe they will get bored or sloppy in that regard as well? Now those are college educated professionals. What about average Joes and Josephines? Gonna trust them as well?

This thread is fascinating, in an appalling way.

Our reaction to Ebola should be nonpartisan, based solely on the numbers, data and expert knowledge.

Instead we are treated to a conservative-fueled spectacle.

It is ONLY conservatives demanding that we ignore the experts and data, and instead resort to extraordinary measures to protect ourselves.

It is ONLY conservatives who are rejecting the opinion of the people who actually know what they're talking about.

It is ONLY conservatives who are rejecting plain evidence such as the fact that NOBODY except Duncan and health professional who came into close contact with Ebola patients have gotten sick, despite Duncan and the health care workers traveling on airplanes, cruise ships, going bowling, eating at restaurants, etc.

It is ONLY conservatives who are insisting we should be very, very afraid.

It is ONLY conservatives who have used this to attack Obama, while insisting liberals have politicized it --- by listening to the experts, apparently.

Are conservatives that fearful? That panty-waisted? That anti-intellectual? WHY have they turned this into a partisan thing?

His family was locked in their house with all of his infected linens and whatever else he used and yet they have been cleared. Facts do not matter to witch burners and people that are unhappy without a boogeyman to make them tremble. I've suggested that they retreat to their bunkers until the "all clear" is sounded.

    You keep talking about quarantine.

Monitoring is not only easier, it's in their own self-interest.

But I'd be fine with requiring health-care workers to check up on them and ensure the monitoring is going on.

Even if that doesn't happen, I'm still not that worried. Ebola is still hard to catch through casual contact. And apparently, in this country, it's survivable. As evidenced by the fact that the only person with Ebola to have died here is Duncan.

Hahahaha! "Daddy (or would that be mommy?) I don't feel so good. The nurse at school said I have got Ebola and should go to the hospital and be isolated from everyone else."

"Ahhhhh . . . quit your whining and toughen up! There's nothing wrong with puking up blood and pooping out your guts. You probably won't die from it. Now go away and don't bother me kid. The Anointed One is again telling us how harmless Ebola is and I don't want to miss any potentially new talking points."

    Nice!

The reason the two Dallas nurses got Ebola was because they just didn't believe in liberal fantasy. They didn't know how hard it is to get Ebola......LOL!

I'd be so embarrassed to post tripe such as this ^^^^^. Don't you take pride in sounding as if you have some knowledge on the subject that you are attempting to debate? Guess not.

The real reason they caught it was that Obama CDC had crapy protocols and equipment on hand. They keep changing their protocols during the process. By them it was already too late. The truth as said by the nurses there. Not your leftist lying prez.

Why was ebola largely confined only to West Africa for over 30 years now until just recently? Was it because of "reactionary nonsense?"

The question was answered, just not the way that is convenient for your argument.

    - - - Updated - - -

I am not sure. In my opinion, it could be because of extreme poverty mixed with political strife.

The hospital had zero protocols and incompetent/untrained staff that sent an infected man home. The protocols have been in place as the hospitals such as Emory Hospital have proven. NYS has been preparing since July...Dallas was not on the job. How old are you, because I feel as if I'm discusssing this with a obstinate juvenile as opposed to an informed educated adult that takes the time research the subject and think things thru.

The CDC had been on alert for weeks and were supposed to be prepared and yet they had NO protective gear on hand for the hospital staff and no plans for moving the patient once it became obvious that the hospital was not prepared for an Ebola emergency. So, yes, it was the CDC's screw up. Obama thought so too since there were articles (did someone fail to read them?) about how he totally reamed out the head of the CDC afterwards for how he and his crew totally screwed up the Dallas operation from the get-go.

Political?! How about the Ebola Czar? Besides, both parties are represented in caution.

Here's yet another theory: The president isn't ordering troops into quarantine when they return from W. Africa
because of the "ignorant hype" of "right wing folks ignoring facts". http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...itary-isolation-troops-joint-chiefs/18108613/
He's doing it because prudent precautions with a deadly infectious disease is actually the smart thing to do...but I'm afraid the "experts" here are perfectly willing to play dice with other people's health and lives because they are so sure of their own cleverness.

    That would be my theory.
