Well, the Emperor and his courtiers can be expected to make a lot of sound and fury about shutdowns, impeachment, not getting people to roll over and pay for what they want, etc., to arouse fear in the base and extract cash from them, but that's not getting a lot traction outside the collectivist hive.

What's next for the GOP? As I recall, I pointed that out earlier. Over Harry Reid's warnings, Obama just screwed any chance of Dems getting a big omnibus spending package out during the lame duck session and there will probably be no big immigration reform bills heading his way next year, either.

I guess Obama's going to have to deal with being forced by Republicans to pivot to the economy and veto legislation that makes him deliver on his pledge to let people keep their doctors and HC plans if they like them, period, etc., etc.

It appears that I'm going to be fitting more schadenfreude into my schedule in 2015...

 

The liberals victory dance won't last long. Back to being illegals in Jan 2017. Without their ability to actually vote in the 2016 election, this boomerang will hit the Democrats right between the eyes considering the numbers of folks against it. Elections have consequences, look at the hit the Democrats took 3 weeks ago and in 2010. Maybe they all need hearing aids, because they just can't seem to hear the people that elected them. To date 29 Democrat Senators who voted for Obama Care won't be sitting in the Senate Chamber Jan 2015. If Obama does what he says tonight, he's virtually guaranteeing another huge Republican victory in 2016. You go Barry, double down on stupid!

Reagan and poppa Bush were both acting in accordance with Simpson-Mazzoli. They didn't just wake up one morning and decide to amnesty a random bunch of illegals through the divine right of kings. What law is Obama basing his actions on?

Why aren't you mad about it? We're supposed to be a republic governed by the rule of written law, not a nation ruled by a monarch who considers himself the law and rules by arbitrary fiat.

As for wins, I'm somewhat mystified at how Obama and Democrats think that this going to be a big win for them. IMO, he's squandering more political capital than he should on this EO and his adversarial impulses are going to wind up blowing up in his face.

It's true - people on both sides are making a lot of noise right now, but McConnell and Boehner have made their positions clear. As far as I'm concerned, that's the end of this story.

What intrigues me is what will happen next year, and this EO will definitely impact that. Obama has made a big mistake in that respect - making life more difficult for yourself is like slapping yourself in the face. Not very smart, at all.

what happen with a worker who is illegal now but legal tomorrow. Will the former illegal alien work for the same wage? Will the employer now have to pay market wages? Or will new illegal aliens (or still illegal aliens) take the place of those now working off the books?

Will Obama be adding 5 million soon to be unemployed legal but still illegal Mexicans to the unemployment rolls and will we have to import 5 million new illegals who would still be illegal to do those jobs. It ain't easy to find people who will do roofing work in 100 degree temps for 5 bucks an hour you know

The purpose of amnestying illegals as far as employers go is twofold:

1. Bring millions more legal low skilled workers into the system to depress legal wages

2. Bring in a new crew of illegals to take the work that the currently illegal, tomorrow legal workers, are leaving. only with a much larger legal workforce with depressed wages, it will depress the wages the illegals will get.

It's the circle of life.

Of course, the illegals won't get their SS cards and work documents overnight. That will take a while.
