Great. So what about when GOD slaughters people, such as being happy when babies are dashed against rocks....to be consistent you have to say that that's not normal and that it's immoral, correct? Modern Secular Humanism of course condemns anyone who has dashed babies against rocks...what about you and the Pope?

If I claim that something is a fact, and it actually is not, then hopefully people will correct me, so that I don't make that mistake again. But when people point out to the Pope that the Bible is patently wrong about, say, the earth being 6000 years old, he is too uncaring about humanity to change that. I of course would change that if I was in his position, obviously. So in this one example, yes, I am CERTAIN that I'm more caring about humanity than the Pope is. He advocates the status quo, I advocate the truth.

Glad he doesn't claim certainty, but if you look at those interviews that are set up where he tried to destroy others who do not buy into pure materialism, he comes across as having great certainty.

So he is a 6 out of seven when it comes to the question of something that man has called god, being existent. Which means he is almost certain, and that he knows the answer, when it is impossible to ever know the answer. The fact of the matter is no one knows the answer. But far too many act as if in fact they do know, on both sides of the argument.

I say there is no way to ever know, and I will leave it there. Now, without knowing, I do have an opinion, but opinions are a universe away from fact. And my opinion is based upon the odds. I think the odds are slightly in favor of a consciousness being essential for the creation and evolution of the universe, and the same goes for the creation and evolution of life. But there is no way for man to actually know. So, people that claim they know makes me feel incredulous, at the utter arrogance involved. If one looks at the question, and then understands the limitation of science, and the assumptions it is based on, those assumptions should create humility in anyone who would look at that. But it doesn't, and that is due to the nature of human beliefs. Arrogance gives much more personal gratification to the ego than humility which would put it in its place. LOL. Hell, even the Christians are an arrogant lot when it come to this. LOL The claim that they know, when in fact they really don't. So, the oldest con game in the world is for someone, or some book, to demand that you just have faith in what they tell you, and don't ever question it, just accept it blindly, thereby refusing to even use the brain.

IMO he exemplifies Jesus better than many other Popes... but with that said Christianity is not a democracy... its more akin to a dictatorship. God speaks, the faithful follow, all others burn in hell. (Albeit a bit of an overly simplistic description on my part.)

I'm with him, and not the Pope.

The President of Niger, where the deaths have occurred, has come out against free speech.

This issue is not going away. The battle lines have been drawn. The Pope is on the wrong side.

You mean that like Jesus he's going to come back and have about 2 billion people killed (based on current population), per Revelation? :-D

I believe the Pope has it right. Freedom of speech is great. . .but what is the use to purposely, intentionally provoke people by insulting them (whether it is about faith, their social standing, any of their deep beliefs?)?

Any person enjoying half a brain KNOWS that there is a limit to what mankind can take of humiliation and shame. . .why trying to push anyone beyond this point? Any person with half a brain also knows that free speech has consequences. . .so why pushing the limit and exposing self (and, especially, others) to the consequences by pressing the "limit" of human dignity?

I have NEVER heard Pope Francis advocate for curtailment of free speech. . . I have just heard him call for a non non-sense respect of other people's limit to how much ridicule and shame they can take. . .not for themselves, but for what they hold dear.

I respect free speech, and I enjoy it also. But if someone should call my daughter a whore, or try to imply my son is a thug. . .I would certainly not be taking this as just "one more silly remark," and I would provide those "consequences" that come with free speech.

Obviously, since I am AGAINST any kind of firearms or violence, I would not resort to violence to resolve this.. . . but I would certainly do everything in my power to bring those people down!

I accept that there are twelve different economic systems of distribution which have been used since man evolved, and Slavery is one of them.
I support the system being used in every case where it serves both parties in the transaction, and is not forced, but agreed to.

Yes, God speaks and all living things must adapt to "Him," or become extinct.

But the RC Church is not god, but a socialist organization which pays for "room and board," and asks for nuns and priests to serve god's work.

Humanism says the same thing Jesus said.

Before man was read for Humanism, dashing babies and single mothers and promiscuous nen against rocks was the Kill or be killed method of fighting sexual promiscuity in the days of Moses.
The muslims are still using this same patriarchy type approach today, because they do not yet see that Truth can change behaviors when it is revealed openly.

Naw, I like to cherry pick my view of Jesus... I like to focus on all His acts of kindness & altruism whilst ignoring the more objectionable bits. Plays right into my argument that Christianity like all most if not all religions are cherry picked by their practitioners.

One thing is 100 percent certain: No god of any kind will ever appear in all of its reported majesty and glory before humanity because all gods are imaginary beings created by superstitious people.

Another thing that is certain is that superstitious people go bonkers with their imaginary creations are mocked. They will go even more insane than they are normally and resort to violence against the mockers. And that proves that their gods are imaginary because if such beings were real they should be able to show themselves to everyone like they did to the first twit that created them.

Even the most ardent religious twit who will explode like a million tons of TNT when someone dares mock his imaginary creature will disparage another religious twit over his imaginary creature. For example, last year an Indian guru got busted for convincing 400 of his dummies that they needed to be castrated in order to get closer to their imaginary god.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-investigated-grievous-bodily-harm-India.html Jesus told his dummies to do the same thing and twits think that he's god himself. So why are the other religious twits so gung-ho on throwing the Indian guru in prison for his deeply held religious beliefs? After all, 400 of his dummies believed his lies and did as he commanded them to do just like Jesus said that people need to cut off body parts to keep from sinning.

All religious doctrines are harmful to one's mental health. That's because crazy people wrote them.

Atheism is an emotional preference. I believe in god as the creator/designer that is necessary for the universe to exist.

I don't really disagree with any of your statements, but the fact remain that there is no reason to purposely demean and insult one's beliefs.

And it is not just about religion.

Do you realize how crazy gun addicts get just with the (false) thought that someone might take their guns away? And it is a fact that more people in America have been killed by gun fire than people killed by terrorist attacks (from the Right or the Muslims) or Ebola combined!

Just THINK how many more great scientists there could have been over the centuries if religion didn't steer people away from science towards magic/superstition. "God did it" means "screw science".

Wyrd and myself are more moral than Jesus et al, because we'd have, if we were in Jesus' "all-knowing" shoes, uttered two words: "no slavery". Then millions of people would have suffered less.....but Jesus wasn't all-knowing, so of course he was too stupid to realize that slavery was one of the worst things in human history. He was a fool.

    - - - Updated - - -

Whoa! Hold on there, Wyrd! Jesus is going to give all the non-Christians over to Satan to barbeque forever in a few years - so he's certainly a "giving" person! :-D

But they are delusional (talking snakes, talking donkey, unicorns, dragons, giants, invisible people with wings on - all in the Bible), so because we love them we need to show them that they are delusional. I'm a former Christian, so I'm glad that ridiculous stuff was mocked so I could see, otherwise I might still be delusional.

True as it may be, that Gods are imaginary ideas, you must remember that everyone had a god back in ancient times.
The whole world had decided that at least a dozen gods existed, and some were preferable to some people, or even whole nations, that others might be.

In the light of this ancient truth, the Jewish Bible produced a God which turns out to be Reality, with a son called Truth.
That was a pretty good idea in ancient times, because no one was ready either to deny their own god, nor to accept Reality as lord and master, either.

    LOL
You just don't know how things can be for some people.

    Indentured servant
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Indentured servitude was a labor system whereby young people paid for their passage to the New World by working for an employer for a certain number of years. It was widely employed in the 18th century in the British colonies in North America and elsewhere. It was especially used as a way for poor youth in Britain and the German states to get passage to the American colonies. They would work for a fixed number of years, then be free to work on their own. The employer purchased the indenture from the sea captain who brought the youths over; he did so because he needed labour. Some worked as farmers or helpers for farm wives, some were apprenticed to craftsmen. Both sides were legally obligated to meet the terms, which were enforced by local American courts.
Tell them that slavery is bad for them, and then you feed them.
