Love hearing news like this, especially when corrupt governor Rick Scott does everything in his power to avoid proliferating solar energy in Florida, which can now laughably be referred to as."The Sunshine State".

Great, 160,000 homes. How many homes are in California, again?

So let's just kick alternative energy to the curb and NEVER move forward for complete energy independence and (*)(*)(*)(*) the environment while we are at it. Right wingers hate progress so much, it's a wonder that they even own computers and are not relying upon cave drawings to communicate.

    Kudos to Governor Brown!

"Such climate measures include the state's "zero-emissions vehicles" mandate, which requires about 15 percent of all new light-duty vehicles sold in California to run on electricity or hydrogen fuel cells. About five in every 1,000 vehicles in California today is powered by batteries, a higher penetration than in any state, thanks to the mandate and generous state and federal incentives, the U.S. Energy Information Administration found."

Just one part of this.. "Incentives" if a clever way of saying tax payer money.

    94,000 per home.

    My math correct?

    Compared to a conventional plant?

Gonna take awhile to pay that electric bill. Does that include the maintenance and upkeep?

So Governor Brown has somehow managed to quiet the Sierra Club and nearly every other green energy group that have been fighting against the other green energy groups that wanted it built?

What power on Earth could accomplish that?

    Money?

I lived in California for 21 years and I'm hear to tell you that they could greatly reduce their electric bill and carbon footprint if they got rid of the millions of illegals. They'd also save a ton of water.

Someone has their panties in a wad. Wow.

Then you go on to talk about how much right wingers hate progress, with really solid examples.

What are you, 12? Or just hardcore indoctrinated?

And for every 5 cents of profit Exxon gets for each gallon of gas, the state of California gets 71 cents, and they still can't pay their bills.

Taxing the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of gasoline is a sure fire way to get people to use battery powered cars, when its the only affordable option.

If a private company did that, leftists would be in an uproar. But because it's government, its cool.

While at the same time saying they need to raise the gas tax due to lower gas prices. They tax per gallon not the dollar amount but most of the country is ignorant sheep so they are not called out on it.

The sq. footprint of that solar farm will have to get a whole lot smaller to be even semi useful on a grand scale. Its like a big experiment to make people feel good, with the end result being almost pointless. When a home can be powered 24/7 simply using its roof, without an alternate power source, only THEN will solar energy be useful.

I agree. That's barely any homes at all. Efficiency in this context is only measured by one variable - how many homes does it power? It is irrelevant how little (or much) it costs to produce this power.

The illegal pot farms (manned by illegal alien labor) that squat on state parks land takes up enormous amounts of water. The cost savings of these solar farms, like the costs of illegal immigration, isn't
a "savings" at all when you calculate the true costs involved.

I agree, but that can't be accomplished by criticizing new underdeveloped technologies in favor of the status quo.

Obamacare was supposed to save me $2500.

I remember hearing about this a while back before the project started. If I recall correctly, there was some back door wheeling and dealing around who would make and then wholesale the panels, the finder's fees, and other stuff like that. It was alleged this was a crony project for people with friends in high places.

You are completely missing the point.

Noone said we shouldnt put money in to such procts, but these massive solar farms are a joke and a waste of money. Would you put a nuclear plant up before it is fully ready?

I live in CA and have followed this project, it is nothing but a political stunt and me and my Statesman are paying for it.

There are almost 14 million homes, 3.5M alone in Los Angeles. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06/06037.html

So I am going to pay all this money in taxes so 160,000/3.5M homes (4.5% and this is in 2013) can get clean energy? Do you know what kind of carbon footprint it takes to CREATE that much wealth? A lot more than you are saving with this ridiculous plant.

The inefficiency of many whom love clean energy astounds me. Then to follow it up that by saying we dont want to waste money on projects, you try and proclaim since we dont want to do it "your way" we are evil people.

You would gain far FAR more followers if you would grow up and have a conversation. Ugh, this topic destroys me...

Most homes can already be powered from solar panels on the roof and a battery bank in a shed or in the house, particularly if the house is built with solar in mind. The problem is the cost, the equipment alone for a typical house costs in the $30,000 - $50,000 range, then there is maintenance (panels break, batteries last 3-6 years depending on use). Right now solar is not cost effective, a person can be independent from the power utility but at current prices will never recover the installation and maintenance cost.

So how exactly does that negate the solar industry and the people that support it?

Seems that the wind farm energy industry is alive and well in Mass.

Who exactly is the "We" that you referred to because as far as I can tell, Republican representatives do very little to promote alternatives.

Hey Twister, how many solar panels are on your roof? How many wind turbines are on your property???
