I'm not going to say I know everything about Islam and it's beliefs. What I would like to know is, are the current troubles in the world, ISIS and all the atrocities they are committing in line with the so-called religion of peace? Muslims, what are your thoughts on these men? Are they betraying the true foundation of Islam or are they upholding what the Prophet and Allah would have instructed them to do? Are the actions of a few extremists overshadowing the majority or is the other way around? Is ISIS and the like true Islam, and all the moderates wrong? This is your chance my Muslim friends to convince me of the true nature of your religion.

Muslims are just like you. The vast, vast majority are just people trying to live their lives. For most of them religion is no more than a poor comfort in times of great grief or stress, usually not the main concern of their lives and certainly not something they're going to kill anyone over. When viewed from outside the residents of Muslim states may appear excessively religious but so do you, and you know yourself that is because you live in a Christian culture not because most of you are fanatical Christians.

Ok, first my religion is more than just comfort in times of grief or stress. It's funny how well you know what I'm like after reading one post. Second, that doesn't really answer the question.

Are you a religious fanatic? Most Muslims are not.

Why do we keep tap dancing around the issue? Why can no one answer the question?

Seeing as it is likely that there is not a single member of this forum that is Muslim (I've yet to see any poster claim as such), that might be a reason why.

Because despite it being an either-or question, there will be different answers depending on who you ask, under what circumstances, with what connotations, what the answers mean and so on. It can't be denied that some Muslims interpret Islam in such a way that the atrocities are in line with it, nor can the opposite be denied, that there are those who interpret it in such a way the atrocities are not in line with it. Any simple answer, including "yes" or "no" would be simplistic. Would you prefer a half-truth? While Margot2's and Ulyanov's answers were not explicit answers to the question, they were beginnings to explanations of the more multifaceted answer. However, since you didn't answer their questions (edit: well, at least Margot2's), they will never reach the point in their argument where your questions are actually answered.

In addition, it can be noted that large amounts of people discussing Islam and its interpretations and consequences are already aware of this entire mess, and the interesting and politically relevant points is how we should deal with this diversity in opinions.

To be fair, the Bible has way more cruel and violent passages than the Qur'an does: http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/long.html

....so hopefully Christians won't "get on their high horse" like Obama was saying.

Join the club! When you've hit almost 10,000 posts like I have you'll realize what you're seeing here is just the way it is.
    1. Do you recommend they change the Qur'an (and if so, you must also recommend that Christians change the horrific parts of the Bible, such as kill gays, I'd argue - to be fair and consistent.)
    2. Will you be attending the MoToon event in your state (Garland Tx)? http://pamelageller.com/2015/02/wat...mad-cartoon-event-buy-your-tickets-here.html/

Goomba is not??? Look I don't know, but I think there are Muslims on this forum.

    - - - Updated - - -

It also gives people a magic pill to magically survive their own death, because religious people are often thanatophobic. Modern Secular Humanists are not thanatophobic.

You don't realize that polls have shown that 30 - 80% of Muslims (especially oversees) approve of making leaving Islam ILLEGAL. Of course that is very very extreme.

    What is a Goomba?

I very much doubt there are Muslims who actively post on a scale in which they would come across this thread. If the make up of this forum matched the overall makeup in the US, less than 1% of the forum members would be Muslim. Like I said, I've yet to see someone claim they were.

Same goes for questions directed towards blacks and woman. The reality is, the makeup of forum members is probably around 90% white males.

If someone wants to actual get answers from such specific groups, this is not a good place to ask the question.

Or is it because they don't want to be identified as Muslim now? Maybe they are ashamed.

Couple things. I was asking the question because I have heard people quote the Quran different ways, some saying killing infidels is ok, others saying no. And no, Garland is about 4 hours away from Houston.

Also, I'm don't care about your religious or non-religious views or your opinion of my religion. That was not the question. You obviously have no pertinent information to add to the discussion. Perhaps you should let the adults talk for a little while.

Do a few christians like the WBC who spout hate in the name of christianity really represent all that is christian or are they just radicals interpreting things to an extreme to fit an agenda?

Both will have the same answer.

I am not tap dancing.. I am encouraging you to think.. Most Muslims are not fanatics nor overcome with religiosity.. They are just people.. and I know because I spent many years in the ME.

In Islam... in the Koran... Muslims can't kill infidels or pagans except in defensive war... and their rules of warfare are enlightened compared to the Old Testament.

So I wonder then, what is ISIS excuse in killing innocents. Are they just psychotic, thinking they are fighting a war in defense?

When was the last itme you heard of a "fundamentalist" christian group doing what ISIS and Al Queda and Hamas and Hezbollah are doing. WBC is just small potatoes in the Christian world, seems like th above mentioned groups aren't in the world of Islam.

We can all agree that the Christian/Jewish god is a pretty sick god. Muslims are "enlightened" compared to Christians when it comes to violence, she's saying.

They are of course just following Mohammad's example, as he had 600+ CAPTIVES (not sure they were in cages, but still) beheaded in one day alone as he was committing genocide of the Banu Qurayza. If he'd had 6 million captives, would he have killed all 6 million? If so, who does that make him as bad as?

ISIS/Boko/AQ believe they are fighting a defensive war, yes.

The Infidels invaded Afghanistan, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Infidels invaded Iraq, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Infidels have troops in many Muslim nations, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Infidels had troops in Saudi, so it's defensive, they feel. (Osama did!)
The Infidels help Jordan, who is killing ISIS Jihadists, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Infidels had drones in Yemen, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Infidel drones have killed Abu Sayef Jihadists, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Crusader Infidels help the Zionists, so it's defensive, they feel.
The Infidels have unforgivingly slandered the prophet at Charlie Hebdo (the French Infidel gov't ALLOWS THAT), so it's defensive, they feel.

See how that whole Islamic "defensive" ruse works, Margot?

I see where you're going. It's interesting. So in the auspices of the Quran, who's breaking the law, the moderates or the extremists?

Since the Qur'an can so very very easily be interpreted to say that killing infidels is indeed ok, do you urge removing those violent parts of the Qur'an (solid fundamental changes), or are you more of the "put lipstick on a pig" approach?
And if so, to be fair and consistent, do you advocate removing the horrific parts of the Bible (such as horrific immoral felonies such as kill gays)?
    Have a great day.

The "extremists" are just better at being Muslims, they believe the Qur'an more, they believe it means what it says and says what it means, and that it can indeed be taken at it's word (after all a copy is supposedly even in Paradise) - more than the "moderates" do, who's faith is much weaker. Mohammad said to cut off hands but ask "moderates" if the advocate that and they say "NO!", but then ask them if then that means that Mohammad got that all wrong and they won't dare answer that question. Very very telling about the religious mind. To be fair, Christians are the same way.

Wouldn't it be compassionate if Christians could muster up the moral courage to remove the parts of the Bible that say to kill gays so that WBC, at least down the road, would not have as much ammunition to do what they do in the name of Christianity? I think so. But my Modern Secular Humanist texts don't say to kill gays so maybe I'm not qualified to answer that question.

    - - - Updated - - -

A poster who seems to defend Mohammad more than just about any poster I've ever seen on this forum, and I'm 90% sure is Muslim.
(I don't have anything against Muslims, BTW, but I do question Islam.)

Reminds me of the birthers back in 2008 when they said to Obama some questions needed to be answered and it took Obama four years to answer those questions.

I think we are going to be waiting more than four years for Muslims to come clean and answer those questions.
